Movie Gallery - Hollywood Video Play Guard = Rip Off(told have to pay for movie/games if returned in unwanted condition) Corner Brook New Foundland
As I went to rent some games for my kids PS3 (1 day after Xmas) I am told that previous titles of Movies/Games were returned in broken/unusable condition.
The store manager told me of 2 titles that I WAS aware of, a PS2 game rented in the summer(PS2 left a ring on the disk) and a Movie that was returned with excessive scratches, but then tells me of up to 6 more that we returned in same or similar shape and that we have been "flagged" and that all games/movie are to be checked by a employee upon rental and return(thought they did this anyway??).
I am then told that I will be no longer covered under "play guard", now I can understand being ticked about a unusable movie/game but when I signed that Movie Gallery contract(and as I heard told to a new customer on the 24 of Dec) Play Guard covers ALL mishap to any movie or game, "My dog ate it", "My kid stepped on it" etc.., except lost or stolen items.
Now I am told that I was supposed to have been notified when I rented that I was under this "flag", but this is the first time someone there has told me(last damaged item was in Nov of 08) and now told that if I return any games/movies I am responsible for any damage.
BUT, she still asked me if I wanted play guard even when I asked her if it covered me and she says "No".
SO BEWARE, Play guard is a pure scam, you are covered sure, but I guess its only once or twice(as I was never told about any other item being damaged until the 26 of Dec 08).
I should have got Play Guard on these last rentals I guess and then took my anger out on those poor disks and when told that "You have to pay for them"..."sorry, my dog ate it"

Any customer that has returned a damaged game has their account noted,
any account noted more than three times is refused playguard,
and any other game returned damaged is to be paid for.
Playguard is GREAT, not a scam, it's saved my customers hundreds of dollars,
but when you come in in one month with more than 5 games or movies destroyed, or more, and COST our stores HUNDREDS of dollars, d**n right Im gonna refuse you playguard and make u pay for any more damaged product.
What are you doing ?! Would you treat your own games or movies the way you treat a rental outlets product?

If you need to be covered more then once or twice....

the problem is clearly you and your kids.
I've rented movies for years and have been a manager for both Hollywood Video and Blockbuster. DVD & Games are hard to mess up.
25 cents or whatever play guard costs does not cover them in any ways if you keep breaking disks.
Hell in all honesty I would have flagged your account to not be allowed to rent period if you kept bringing back our product damaged.
