This company has called us about 200 times. I am a 36 year old male with cerebral palsy, it is very difficult for me to talk clearly on the phone.

About a week ago, a guy called our house, I picked up the phone, he said is this "Mary B's house?" I said "yes, who is this?" he said "Are you drunked, sir?" I said to him "no!", he continued to ask if I knew Mary B's work number.

Mary B's is my elderly mother. I told the guy "who is this, what is your name, from where are you calling from?" He would just make fun of my speech impairement.

So I hung up the phone, then he called again and again and again. The guy must have called 25 times. I called the police about the guy harrassing me and my mom.
What can we do to close them down?

Daniel,

You can definately file a complaint with the FTC on this one. 25 times in a day is harrassment. Calling once a day, is more normal. You can advise them the cease calling. They may require written request of this, and they will still contact you by mail after this. If they have troubles understanding you and you want to get it taken care of, let them know that your Mom or someone else can speak to them about the debt. Without your permission, they are legally not allowed to speak to someone else (other than a spouse in most states).

If they are doing crap like calling 25 times in a row...

...then I would file a harassment report with the phone company.

You also need to tell them to stop calling and your mother will probably need to put that in writing (a cease communications letter). You can find examples of them at the bud hibbs website. Perhaps "Steve" will come along and have some other suggestions.
