Complaint Review: MWI*Galleria 800-411-8104 CT

My email to the Connecticu Attorney General:

Dear Sir,:

As I was paying bills last night, I noticed a $159.95 charge on my Discover Card from
MWI Galleria USA 800 411 8104 CT.

I asked my wife if she knew what the charge was for but she was as mystified as I was. I called last evening but it was after their business hours. A quick Google led me to the Ripoff Reports website. (Cool!)

I called the 800 number this morning and spoke to a Lisa who obviously spoke English as a second language. She proceeded to ask me personal info questions to look up my account. I finally got her to explain who or what MWI*Galleria is. It is some sort of savings club "good at K-mart, Penney's and many other places".

I politely demanded that my money be promptly refunded. She launched into another sales pitch. I stopped her by asking for her supervisor. After a few back and forth exchanges I mentioned filing a complaint with the Connecticut Attorney General and the FTC. Suddenly she said the charge would be reversed and would show up on the next (or second) credit card statement.

She gave me either her employee number or a transaction number - 16185. (Her accent got worse as I got more demanding.)

I don't know if I'll get the refund but I will follow-up. I intend to file a complaint with both the CT and LA AGs and the FTC.

Neither my wife nor I have any explanation for this charge. We are both college graduates, professionals in our fields and mature consumers. We keep good records of our expenses. In fact, I was entering the check into Quicken and splitting up the charges into categories when I found this charge.

This is simply a fraudulent, unauthorized charge.. The fact I have to take time out to fight this galls me.

I ask that you open an investigation against this company or add this to your files. (I'm sure your office is already working on this.)
