MWI*GALLERIA USA consumer fraud ripoff unknown charges just appeared on my checkcard Stamford Connecticut
While recently looking at the charges on my Wachovia (formerly First Union) checkcard I noticed a charge for $139.95. I did not authorize any company to charge me this amount. I do not even think I have made any purchases on my checkcard that have been over $50 in the past month ... maybe longer!
According to my bank records the charge appeared on my account on Feb. 10, 2003. The description shows 2/07 and I presume that is when the charge was submitted.
The description on my bank records is "PURCHASE MWI*GALLERIA USA 02/07".
Now that I am aware of this charge I will be contacting my bank to have the charges removed.

I,like many I have read about, have been a victim of MWI unauthorized charges recently. I (being very dumb)enrolled with the Galleria 30 day free trial. Only I called and cancelled it, so I thought. I found out 3 weeks later, when I was charged 139.95 from them, that the agent had not 'done the correct paperwork'. This also caused me to have 144.55 in overdraft charges, in addition to the membership fee, charged to my checking account. I immediately called and asked to speak to the supervisor, who looked into this and did verify that I had called to cancel. (He actually admitted fault).
I called for 2 days, and sent a written letter and a copy of the overdrawn funds to them. The membership fee was turned around in 3 days and the overdraft charges were reimbursed in 5. This was not an easy task to accomplish, but I was persistent and called about 3-4 times per day after my fax went unanswered as did the email to the main contact on their website. The numbers and names that helped me were: 888-567-5739, this is a direct line to the compliance dept that overlooks this info, and one that is not toll free is 402-661-2000.
I spoke with numerous individuals, but the main contact was with a Patricia, she is the supervisor of the compliance dept and an Eric, who is supposedly who took care of this. I also spoke with a Tina in customer relations at 888-206-2321 and faxed my information to 402-661-2189. I hope this can be of any help to anyone else who has been taken advantage by them.
I also read a thread from someone who said that they settled w/the state of NY to double the amount back to you, but that, I was told by my lawyer that I contacted, only happens if you live in NY, which I don't. I wish there was a way to stop these people, by the way, I never did get my 'free $25 gift card' that was the reason I tried this!
