On March 11, 2003 our joint checking account was charged $99.00 by a company called MWI Homeworks. It wasn't until several days later that I found out about the debit, when I received a "NFS" notice from our bank.

As it turned out we had nine checks returned because of these unauthorized funds taken from our checking account. When I checked with our bank, there was an 800 phone number next to the name MWI Homeworks so I called the number to complain.

I spoke to a woman and explained that I had not authorized this money to be taken from my account and since the money had been taken I was bouncing checks all over the place. I had already incurred $255.00 in bank charges on the same day that MWI took my money.

The lady assured me if their company had made a mistake they would happily return all money, including any fees I was charged. However she said I would have to speak to a supervisor and there wasn't one there. She took my name and telepone number and told me someone would call me in a day or two.

Next I went to my own bank and spoke to a manager there. The bank manager told me to call the company back a second time and give them another chance to give us the money back including all fees we paid.

I waited three days to hear from the company but I never got a call back. Meanwhile on March 27, 2003 MWI Homeworks credited my checking account $99.00.

I called the company again and asked what they were going to do about all the charges I have incurred due to their taking money that they weren't arthorized to do.

I was told if I fax them these charges they would make a determination as to whether we are entitled to the fees back. I have well over $400 in fees now, between my bank and the local companies that received my checks that didn't clear.

I am still waiting to find out whether they will return the rest of the money.
