Add me to the sizable list of people who have had fradulent charges put on their credit card by MWI Simple Escapes.

It appears that this is a credit/debit card scam operation which has gone to great lengths to make themselves appear to be legitimate. They have a very splashy, professional looking website at www.mwisimpleescapes.com, and their phone number that appeared on my bill, 877-836-6903 CT, connected me to a computer menu that offered me two normal-sounding options: "Press 1 for account or charge questions, press 2 to place an order".

I dialed the number twice and tried both options, and each time I got another computer voice telling me the customer service center was closed, and saying that it would be open from 6:00am to 4:00pm central time (strange that an outfit supposedly based in Connecticut would give out central time....).

Their website talked a blue streak about all the savings they offer, but nowhere did it explain just how these savings are obtained. However, it did offer a sign-up page which, of course, askes for a credit card number. And it said that, for a limited time, they are offing a "special savings" on their sign-up fee, reducing it from $49.95 to only $9.95 which just happened to be the amount they charged to my credit card *twice*, each one month apart.

There was also an 800 number on their web site. I dialed it, got a voice saying all represenitives were busy, and then silence. No music, no nothing. I hope this wasn't one of those rip-off 800 numbers in the Caribbean or somewhere that charges $25.00 to your phone bill. Guess I'll find-out when the bill comes....
