I was trying to get my registration sent to me and, as a huge Miami Dolphins fan, I wanted to change my license plate to the new plate with the new logo. I just did a quick search on how to change the plate and clicked on the first website thinking it was the DMV. Never in my life have I wished I was at the DMV but in this case I should have just gone. I followed instructions on getting my new license plate and just had to wait on shipping. I received an e-mail almost instantly thanking me and it told me I would receive my plate in no more than 15 business days. While I haven't reached 15 days yet, I must admit that I thought I was going through the DMV until my wife mentioned as a joke that maybe they scammed me. I looked at the website and e-mail and realized it wasn't the DMV but a private "company" who uses the DMV to give people their plates. When I realized this I sent an e-mail asking for shipping confirmation or even just confirmation of someone being on the other side. The initial e-mail I got was from "Michael Towner" but I have yet to receive a reply even though I got an e-mail within the hour after buying one and it's been more than a week. So I tried calling. The phone number is a cell phone with a full voicemail box and they DO NOT pick up. I put my phone on redial for an hour and after a while they started to deny my calls. It would ring twice and go to voicemail. I hope I get my registration and plate soon and it's a legit company but I imagine it is not.

While I wish that there was a little bit better communication I did receive my new license plate. Apparently it was sent to the wrong address but the mail got it figured out. Mr Towner apologized to me and I appreciate him for doing that. This was a simple process and legitimate, I just wish that there was appropriate address unfortunately somebody wrote a 7 at some point even though on my receipt there is a 2 but everything worked out and I have my new license plate

Fraud?

#3Consumer Comment

So then...you are claiming they've stolen your money and misrepresented themselves, right?  If you don't get your plate then its fraud.  However, there are some interesting items on their website which are VERY easy to see.  First in the URL...you will see it ends as a ".com".  If it was a State of Florida site, it would have ended as a ".gov".  Easy to see.  Then lets scroll down to the bottom of the page.  Here is what it says with black on white printing in capital letters and certain words in boldface as reproduced:  "THIS IS A PRIVATELY OWNED WEBSITE THAT PROVIDES A SERVICE THAT IS NOT OWNED OR OPERATED BY ANY COUNTY, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY..."  Again, easy to see.  Quite frankly, you should be upset and by that, be upset with yourself because YOU failed to identify who you were dealing with when the evidence to that effect was staring you in the face.

Nobody should pay for something which is provided free of charge by a government agency and nobody should pay extra for a service when they can go directly to a government agency and get it done without a surcharge.  A smart consumer ascertains exactly who they are dealing with BEFORE they agree to deal with them.
