I bought a 1995 grand prix for my daughter's birthday. I had limo tint on the windows, put in a nakamichi stereo, polk amplifier and subwoofer was bolted into the trunk. The only thing left was the starter and the car would be finished and ready to give to my daughter.

So I had AAA drop my car off at "My Mechanic". We called ahead of time and explained the situation. They said they would call when the car arrived.

We received a call the next morning from a young girl who was giggling on the phone and said that our car arrived last night and we should be aware that someone broke into our car and stole our stereo. Needless to say I was livid and asked them what then intended to do about the situation. They said nothing, they were not responsible. I asked them if the tow truck driver gave them the keys to the car, they said yes your keys are right here. I asked them if the signed a paper receiving the car, they said well , another girl was here yesterday and she must have signed for it, but that they were closing shop at the time. They don't recall. I then replied I would be right down. I called my husband at work and he met me at the shop.

When we arrived a mechanic was quick to answer us. After I examined the car I noticed that there was no broken glass outside the vehicle it was all in the car like the window was smashed from the inside out, the backseat was ripped out to make it look like they took the subwoofer out that way, which was impossible due to the small whole between the car and trunk. So when I asked to speak to the owner they said he was out of town. The mechanic on duty was sweating and very irritable. When my husband mentioned that it looked like an inside job the mechanic lunged across the counter at him slammed him into the wall and put his hands around his throat. I immediately told the girl to call the police and she stated she was just a temp and didn't want to get involved.

We went to the police and filed a report they did nothing. About 3pm that afternoon I received a phone call from the owner screaming and cussing at me telling me I had until 5pm to have my car off their lot or they would have it towed by Ewing Bros., which anybody who lives in Vegas knows they are the biggest rip off in town, but that's another story.

So I had my car towed back home now not only was I out a stereo system the passenger car door was broke, windows busted ,no backseat and $1500 later the car is worse off then when I started.

I contacted Channel 13 they couldn't help. I called better business bureau they did nothing, police did nothing and to top it off my next stop after the shop was the insurance company so no insurance. Happy Birthday Baby!

My Mechanic - should be put out of business

Having read this message, my first suggestion for you to do is file a complaint against this company with the Clark County District Attorney and the State of Nevada Attorney General's Office. Tell them all of the actual events that occurred and the state will investigate and if necessary shut down the business. Plus get yourself an attorney and sue them for damages caused to your automobile.

What you should do is contact AAA, get the name of the AAA driver and company that driver works for, and find out who signed the paper stating this mechanic shop received the car. If possible get a photocopy. This company IS liable for any damages caused by the car because THEY signed for the paper stating it was left at their business.

As for the other issues involving the mechanic on duty lunging at your husband, that is assault and battery, and there were witnesses who saw exactly what happened. I can't believe that Metro did not do anything about that.

Bottom line -- having had a similar problem my father had years ago with a transmission shop that is no longer in business -- sue this company, file a report with the State Attorney General's office and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Get all the names of the people involved, documents from AAA and get a good attorney.
