I received a gift card in the amount of $60.00 for a Christmas secret santa exchange last year. I held onto the card until this summer when I went on a road trip and tried to use it. The card was declined so I contacted the number on the card. I was told that my card had been blocked because "someone tried to charge something at Sears for $5.00" and that I would have to fax in a copy of the front and back of the card and to 414-341-7600 and request a new card. I was asked to include my full name and phone number and best times to be reached. I was never contacted by telephone to advise me on the status of my case. I finally received a card in the mail and learned that $5.95 had been removed as a "fee" to replace the original card. I think it's a complete scam that this has happened. My card was never out of my personal control and I do not believe it was ever compromised. Who even tries to buy something at Sears for $5.00? I think this fee is just a way for the company to scam millions of people out of what would seem to be a small amount, but when compounded many times over is actually earning them a healthy and robust amount of money!
