We booked a N. Myrtle Beach property through VRBO on June 12,2020, the unit was managed by MBVR, as we booked about 2 weeks from our dates of stay, we paid in full up front $842.98.

We were in communication with MBVR during these two weeks and were told to check in at the MBVR office for keys & check in information for our 4-day, 3-night stay.

Upon arrival on June 25, 2020 we were told that the unit we had booked was sold, no longer in their inventory, and they were checking us into another "ocean view" property.  They said they had no further information, basically take it or leave it.  We checked out the unit they were moving us to and it was not as nice and was listed at $80 less per night than what we had paid.  I figured if they would refund the difference, we could deal with it.

Quick note: the property they tried to move us to was oceanfront, but no view and in the words of my 12 y/o "smelled like death and old ladies", doors wouldn’t shut properly, blinds were broken, furniture was old and worn.  I returned to the MBVR office and they said I would need to seek my refund through VRBO.  VRBO said the refund would need to come from the property manager.

We spent the rest of the day on the phone with VRBO and MBVR trying to get something straightened out - to no avail.

We ended up getting in contact with the owner (of the original condo) directly and their unit was NOT sold and they were not only as infuriated as we were but also helped us get into their condo so we moved from the dump to the condo we paid for.  At this point we had wasted a full day of our trip dealing with all of this.  After talking to a few other owners on the property, this is a common occurrence and MBVR is gaining a reputation for screwing people over, with no knowledge to VRBO or the condo owners. They also reported employees of MBVR entering units without the renter’s or owner’s permission as well as items being stolen.

Here is the best part, the day after we were told MBVR had no more info on this property as it was sold. On Friday, June 26, 2020, a fellow vacationer checked into the MBVR office and was given the keys to the unit we were staying in needless to say everyone was surprised as we were told the day before they had no information let alone keys to this “sold” condo.  This fellow vacationer had booked her trip in May of 2020, so it should have never shown as available for us to book.  MBVR is double booking and scamming consumers, taking top dollar, and shuffling travelers to sub-standard accommodations.
