National Action Financial Services, aka NAFS, is the epitome of a good idea gone bad. After they contacted my elderly grandfather with a bill for a company he has had NO debt with, they coerced him into giving them his checking information so he could pay this bogus bill by phone. After the supposed company he owed money to was contacted and clarified that he had no debt with them, NAFS was contacted. The first employee spoken to was a calm person willing to discuss the issue without screaming. After a few minutes on the phone, he was asked whether or not they clarified my elderly grandfather's social security number before they got his checking information. The employee asked if the social security number was a certain number, and it was not. Whoever contacted my grandfather the first time did not have enough knowledge to find out whether or not they had the right person. On a subsequent phone call to this company, my mother had the misfortune of reaching a woman who was incapable of listening to what was asked before she exploded into a screaming fit. After filing a complaint with the BBB explaining the situation and requesting a $20 refund for the stop check payment that wound up not stopping the check since it was an e-check, NAFS's lawyer Nathan Bowden responded with an obvious misunderstanding of the situation. He stated that my elderly grandfather did not pay the bill as requested by NAFS and they would not refund the $20 for the stop payment as that was my grandfather's decision to go through with it.

If YOU ever have the misfortune of being contacted by an angry collection agency hell bent on getting money from someone regardless of who it is, ask them to clarify your social security number. They won't do it otherwise.
