Napleton's Jupiter Dodge Mazda Ripoff lied about MSRP delivered vehicle with no window sticker and committed fraud in the amount of $2,814 Jupiter Florida
This statement concerns events that began on April 27, 2007 at Napleton's Jupiter Dodge Mazda, 1555 West Indiantown Road, Jupiter, FL 33458, 561-743-0411, jupiterdodge.com, when I kept an afternoon appointment I had made to see Pablo Hernandez in sales. I bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber that day, VIN 1B3HB48B77D159631, from Mr. Hernandez who located the vehicle at another dealership. I had gone to Napleton's because of an internet coupon from them for $1,000 off the MSRP of the vehicle I would be purchasing. I had a trade-in of a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E320 station wagon. I knew that it was worth $5,000 in trade as I had had it appraised at CarMax. Mr. Hernandez allowed the $5,000 in trade, but disallowed the $1,000 MSRP discount coupon because he told me my car was not really worth $5,000.
Mr. Hernandez informed me that the MSRP was $23,599 for the Caliber he had found for me at another dealership. As the vehicle was not on Napleton's lot, I had no way to verify the accuracy of the vehicle's MSRP information and I believed what Mr. Hernandez told me. I signed a contract for the vehicle in the amount of $23,599 and traded my car on April 27, 2007. I did not take delivery of the Caliber until April 28, 2007, as it had to be physically transferred from the other dealership to Napleton's. There was no window sticker on the vehicle and I asked Mr. Hernandez for this information. He told me that it was unavailable at the moment because they had to get a new window sticker with their dealership information on it. He told me he was not allowed to give me the window sticker with the other dealer's information. He did give me an invoice copy about the car from the original dealership with all financial numbers whited out.
It was this document that originally made me suspicious of Mr. Hernandez. I realized that the radio in the car was not the radio for which I had paid. Then I started researching window stickers and realized that Mr. Hernandez had committed a Class A Misdemeanor by taking it off the car and not providing it to me. I wrote a letter on May 14, 2007 requesting the window sticker and asking for a refund for the difference between the two radios, a difference of $320 plus tax.
Finally, I received the window sticker on May 29, 2007. The true MSRP for the vehicle I purchased is $21,105, a difference of $2,494 plus tax. The original dealership's name and address is on the window sticker, Monarch Dodge of Lauderdale Lakes. There was an addendum sticker attached by Napleton's for a Napleton's Vent Visor Pkg, Limited Market Availability, for $2,990, a package about which I had no prior knowledge and did not order. On my retail purchase agreement with Napleton's, the box for optional accessories/services is not checked. There is also a line item for aftermarket items that was filled in as N/A.
On May 30, 2007 I wrote another letter requesting that Napleton's tell me in writing what they had done to the vehicle between taking delivery of it on April 27 from another dealer and my picking it up on April 28 to add $2,990 worth of value to the vehicle. They provided no information, as they had done nothing to the vehicle, prior to delivery of it to me less than 24 hours after receiving it from Monarch Dodge. They did remove the radio, for which I had paid and replaced it with one of lesser value.
In total Napleton's has defrauded me out of $2,814 plus tax of $182.91 for a total of $2,996.91. In the process of defrauding me, they also committed a Class A Misdemeanor as pursuant to The Automobile Information Disclosure Act, aka the Monroney Act.
I sent them my last letter on June 4, 2007 requesting a refund or the installation of comparably priced upgrades of my choice in my vehicle to make it worth what I paid for it. I'll let you know what happens.

Napleton's Jupiter Dodge Negotiates a Fix to the Problem
#3Author of original report
Mon, July 16, 2007
Pete Grinnell, the new owner/equity partner in Napleton's Jupiter Dodge, finally heard of my complaint through the Better Business Bureau. We negotiated a settlement to my satisfaction which was the installation of an after market Dodge navigation system into my vehicle at their expense. He followed through with his word and my car is now equipped so that the value of the vehicle is on par with what I paid for it. If you have any problems at Jupiter Dodge, I recommend contacting Pete Grinnell.
