17 months ago we took our 1997 C3500 truck in for service. At 69,000 miles, the computer needed to be replaced. It was replaced under warranty and took them about 1.5 hours to replace it.

Fast forward to last week. Took same truck into be repaired, Service Engine Light was on again. Computer needed to be replaced again. This time, with 87,000 miles, it took them 2.5 hours to replace the computer and this time it was not covered by any warranty. The dealership refused to help out in any way, even though they admit that a computer on a vehicle should last longer than 17 months.

Called the Cheverolet Customer Care group and after 2 weeks, they have been unable to get any assistance in this matter. The dealership refuses to help except for if I purchase a new car. My two major complaints were that it took the same take an hour longer to repair the vehicle when the customer is paying for it and secondly that a non-wear related part has gone bad in 17 months.

yes the computer should last more than 17
months, but you have no warrenty. because you
the costumer bid not buy he computer. G.M. did.
they do not extend the warrenty on parts
replaced under warrenty, and it is not just G.M.
it is all the manufaturers.

now as to the time when warrenty work is done the manufaturers say how much time they will pay for. when work is done that is not warrenty most repair shops go by chilton time guides. and yes times are differnt.
