I first saw Nathan post a listing for his Toyota Mr2 for sale on Craigslist. He had it set to $6200 and then he dropped it to $5500 when he wasn't getting too many responses. I met him at the Extended Stay Hotel where he had both his cars parked. He showed up an hour late then we agreed on. Car looked like it was in good shape from what we (me and a friend) inspected. I wanted a third opinion so I hired an ASE master technician to inspect the car. After I got the report back I told him, "when could we meet to exchange it". He told me someone had offered him 5,000 cash, but didn't have it yet and hadn't even met him to look at the car.

The next few days he agreed to meet me at locations we had arranged where we could make the exchange. I offered him $4,800 if I were to come buy it from him, but I'd match the $5,000 if he had some way to get it to me. He met up with a buddy the first day and we agreed to meet between 6:30 P.M. He contacts me letting me know he's running late around 6:00 P.M. I then, don't hear back from him till 7:30 P.M. saying his buddy bailed and I'd have to give him a ride home. I didn't have the opportunity to do this so we decided on another day. The next day, he agrees to meet me in between 3:00 and 3:30 P.M. He contacts me at 2:50 P.M. saying he would be there. I then don't hear from him till 5:40 P.M. (this was after I had sent him a message after not seeing him) asking if he would be open after 6:00 P.M. I don't hear from him till 8:30 P.M. saying he decided to visit a friend instead.

I showed up each time waiting between 30 min. to 1 hr. and he never showed up, but rather gave me excuses way after the time we should have met. At 9:30 P.M. I hear from him going back on our agreement that he wanted me to meet him. At this point, he broke every single agreement so I no longer trusted him. He tried to tell me the reason he didn't show up was because he got an e-mail on the way driving to meet me, saying someone offered $5200. He claims to be out of work, but has all the time to play games with people wasting their time and money. There was no way I was going to spend $50 on a taxi and have that chance to not see him show up like usual.

Seller is unprofessional

I met this guy too and saw the car. He was late when I showed up at the hotel to meet him so, I don't doubt the rip off report post for reliability from the seller. After meeting with the seller and reading the complaint I would draw the conclusion that the buyer is mad because the seller bailed on him a few times. As a seller of a car, you should be trying to make a good impression when trying to sale a car (if you want the best offer). I guess you wouldn't care if you don't want them to know where you live or any information about you. I've never had a customer mad at me because I always close with a professional conduct. It looks like this seller created a bad environment for this guy and the same for me. There is nothing wrong with negotiating. The seller needs to expect negotiating when they are trying to sell a car and not get mad at someone and lie to them when making arrangements to meet.

The fact this guy is a kid or has trouble driving the car should have nothing to do with the situation at hand. He can learn just like anyone else new to driving. The MR2 2nd Gen is a fun car and would be a fun first car if this were the case. The posting above seems suggestive with the insults the seller is throwing at the person and I wouldn't trust the whole thing is credible. I don't think the seller understands the concept of "low balling". Why the seller is trying to sell his car on here as well would indicate they are copy and pasting the same thing everywhere. I feel bad this whole situation came up. I probably would have been upset to if my time was wasted by this seller.

He's pissed off cause I won't sell to him

Now I'm not a person to start anything, but there's a kid claiming I'm a fraud. He says I won't honor my agreements, and says the car is bad news. He's upset because he made plans with me to have ME DROP THE CAR OFF AT HIS PLACE, or else he would've taken $200 off the deal. He would not agree to pick up the car from my place, as he lacks the skills necessary to drive it, and is scared of wrecking it on open roads. Its true I went

back on our agreements a couple of times, but I believe that as a buyer I have that right. You have to realize, if he had just agreed to pay my firm, final price of $5000 (which I had several other people offering! I wasn't going to sell it to him for $4800 just to have him pick it up! Not when others would pick it up AND pay $5000!) and agreed to pick the car up he would have it right now. Yet he says I'm a fraud because I've been having trouble coordinating plans with my friends to get a ride back from dropping the car off. I'll just say right now, I DON'T DELIVER. If you want the car, you pick it up and drive it home yourself. Besides just arranging to drop the car off, he's been sketch in other ways. He wants to pay with a cashier's check, and I told him to go cash it at the bank and give me cash (there are fake cashier's checks!) instead. He won't, he refuses to do it.

I've also said that if he won't pay cash, I should be present when he's there at the bank getting the check. He won't do that either. Heck, one night he wanted me to drive and meet him at 11:00PM, just on my own, at his friend's garage, to sell the car. Something is up with him and he just seems like a scammer. At the very least, he's an idiot, and I honestly don't want to sell him the car. That's my choice, and he's gotten pissed off about it enough to defame me on craigslist for it. I don't want to sell him the car because he totaled his last one, he can BARELY drive my MR2 (he would seriously ruin the clutch and/or motor mounts learning to drive it), and he wants to put it back to stock. He does not appreciate the power its making, and I can't abide that, sorry but I have to look after the car and make sure its next owner is someone who understands exactly what it is, and will take good care of it.

About the problems the kid is talking about, he's just angry and he's looking to defame my character. He's a complete idiot, after looking at the car, and having me take him on a test drive where he could barely drive it and proceeded to burn up my clutch, he hired an inspector to take a look at it. The inspector didn't do anything the kid couldn't have done himself, he didn't diagnose the A/C or ANYTHING, heck he didn't even check the oil. He didn't even drive the car, or rev it up, yet he put down on his report that the car doesn't boost. He also put down that it has a bad rear main seal, even though he never got under the car and only bases that from oil he saw on the valve cover, on TOP of the engine. The car inspector was a fraud, the kid paid him $200 to do a 5 minute inspection where he barely checked anything besides tread depth and brake pads and wrote down a bunch of bogus info in his report. He headgasket is fine, if you want you can drop by and look at the oil yourself, its not milky. The car also boosts perfectly and has a LOT more power than most MR2 Turbos on the road, if it had a bad head gasket it'd leak boost into the engine (oil sump or coolant system) and would not drive right. You can drop by for a test drive if you don't believe me, it drives better than a new MR2. As for oil leaks, I'll be truthful here, I used to think the car has an oil leak at the distributor. But I've inspected it myself several times and there's no oil dripping down from it, and absolutely none on the top of the transmission, which is directly under the distributor. The only oil dripping down the engine appears to be coming from up top. The valve cover gasket is fine, I was topping off the oil in the car a few weeks ago and had a full bottle of Quaker State full synthetic slip out of my hands (oily, slippery bottle) and dump about a 1/2 qt of oil on top of the engine. I've tried to clean the valve cover, but to really get it clean requires removing the upper intake, throttle body, etc, and I'm in the business of selling a car, not prepping it for a car show. You can see it for yourself if/when you drop by to take a look at the car. The engine was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago and the valve cover gasket, along with the rear main seal, other seals on the engine, and the turbo seals, were all replaced then, so I doubt any of them have gone bad. As for the a/c compressor, I don't know what's up with it, and I've already said that in the ad. If you want this car, you're buying it for the power, brakes, and suspension. If you want every factory option to work, go buy a stock low-mileage MR2. This car has well over 300 crank hp and tq, which is not an easy feat for a MR2 Turbo. Yes the a/c compressor might be bad, or it might be good, I don't know and neither does the brat defaming me. I'll just tell you what I know, I've owned the car since November 2008 and the a/c has never worked. I've never messed with it, because its never been an issue for me, I see the car as a weekend sunny day car and I usually just open the t-tops instead of waste my gas mileage and power by running the a/c. I've never gotten a leakdown test or attempted to fill it with R-134. It could just need a refill, on my other cars where the a/c hasn't worked in years that's all they've needed. There is a chance the compressor is bad, though.
