I was led to believe that they were asking for a charitable donation to fund equipment, not to fund a political action committee. They tried to pressure me into making a sizable donation and when I said I would make a 25 dollar donation, they switched me to a closer, who then offered cheaper options to donate. I said I would donate after being pressured.  I had no intention of donating over the phone, so they sent me a form, and I am glad I got it.  That's when I read the fine print that pointed out it would be a political donation, not a charitable donation and would be used to fund candidates for their agenda.  I am furious, but glad I didn't give them any info over the phone.  It would be easy for someone elderly to get caught in this scam.  I hope people will research for themselves before handing over any money, credit card numbers, or checks.
