I received a post card in the mail offering a free membership to the National Association of Professional Women. A few weeks later, I received a call from Audrey Schneider saying she needed to verify some details before I received my membership. What I got was a 20 minute phone call asking me about my accomplishments, aspirations, what I do in my business, etc. Then she pumped with flattering talk and then hit me with the $600+ price tag. I told her I thought the membership was free...so she offered me a lower membership for $400+. She finally worked her way down to $89 for the first year. She was constantly pressuring me for my credit card information. When I told her that I didn't want to pay the $89, she got totally rude. She told me I would get only a free listing and very few benefits and ended the conversation. She was pretty slick...made me feel like a total loser. I decided to look it up on Google and see if this was a scam. And here are the other complaints! I wish I could have recorded the call. I would send the tape to the FTC for a false advertising complaint. I'm sure glad I was too broke to give her my credit card number... And that is the worst part. I'm usually pretty suspicious, but this one caught me off guard because I had sent in the membership card. I'm pissed off that they have my contact information. What a bunch of crooks.
