And i thought Fifth Third Bank was bad. Recently National City charged me an overdraft charge when my account was never overdrafted. I deposited $1200.00 on a wednesday of which $600.00 was a check. My car payment of $330.00 went through the next day which was a thursday. There was a problem with the check because it was made out to my wife and I and only I endorsed the check. Therefore the check was sent back to me (which took a week when the brach is a 1/2 mile from my house). National City's next action was to debit my account for the entire $1200.00, including the $600.00 in cash! I was never notified of this until the folling tuesday when I checked my balance online and called the bank. They had no explanation of what happened to the $600.00 in cash. They did admit that the $600.00 in cash should be in my account and they said it would placed into my account immediatly, but even that that took 2 days and three more phone calls. Finally, when the $600.00 was put back into my account they were nice enough to date it for the date of the original $1200.00 deposit. The only problem was there was an overdraft fee for my car payment when my balance showed $800.00. National City said it was because my cash deposit was pending when my car payment went through, which is totally false. My "available" balace said it was $800.00 and when I talked to National City they said my "available" balance does not include any pending items. I talked to 6 different people in one phone call that lasted 90 minutes that got me absolutly nowhere. They in no way had any intention of refunding my overdraft charge until I went to my brach to close out all of my accounts. They promptly refunded my overdraft charge, but to their surprise I closed my accounts anyways.
