I was a student new in the United States. I had never had a credit card before and was frantically applying for credit cards in August 2001. A person from National Credit Shopper called at my home number and spoke at length about benefits of their "credit card" and told me I will have to give them my bank account number so they could withdraw a "refundable" $199.95 and send me the credit card. I fell into the trap and gave away my bank account number.

Sure enough, the credit card never arrived and on checking my account online, I realized I had been ripped off. About a year ago, I got this letter with a National Credit Shopper letterhead saying that somebody had filed a lawsuit against them and that my money will be returned at the end of the litigation. There was obviously no contact email or phone number on the letter.

I'd like to know if this company exists at all and if I can do anything besides praying that these guys rot in hell.
