I recently discovered that I have a debt from slightly 6 years ago. After obtaining all necessary info regarding this debt, I began to make phone calls and the like to resolve this outstanding debt. Initially, I contacted the company to which I owed this money. I made a little progress with her and was able to get all the information I needed to move on to my next step which was to speak with the collection agency that had the account. I would have settled the debt with the initial debtor but that fell thru because she was unable to report to the 3 credit bureaus like I had requested. I called and left a message with Robin of National Credit Systems at approx 1:30pm. I then called back to speak with an actual representative. The first woman I spoke with, Berneta, was just as rude as she wanted to be. She would not allow me to speak and continued to talk over me demanding my social security number. When I began to speak actual words and not numbers, she got extremely upset and began to speak even louder at the point. She said things "we are going to do things my way, I need you to stop trying to talk and just listen to me. All I was trying to tell her was that I did have a file number but didnt know if that was the same as an account number.

Needless to say, once she stopped yelling and stopped talking AT and OVER me, I requested to speak to someone else because I didnt appreciate her tone and I didnt feel as though either one of us were going to be very receptive during any continued conversation. Rudely she ageed and informed me that I was going to have an extended wait once she put me back in the que. I agreed.

To mu surprise, I was only on hold for about 2 minutes so she failed at her scare tactic attempt. The next person I spoke to with equally as rude and unwilling to let me speak. I dont know what it is about this agency having to have complete control over those that call in to resolve their debts. Its almost as if NCS doesnt want any of our hard earned money and would prefer the things to stay on your credit report. Is this a form of free marketing? Keep the NCS name on credit reports so that other potential loan agencies can see the NCS name and potentially go thru them to collect a debt. Doesnt make any sense though because if NCS was doing their job correctly their name wouldnt be on anyones credit report.

The end result of my conversation with the second person whom I believe was Linda Robinson was unsuccessful as well. Less the $2K account on a debt that is more than 6 years old should be minimal. Yet, this company was insisting that I pay half of the debt because I was so close to the time frame and having the debt "fall" off of my report anyway. After trying to negotiate a little more on the final number I was told that I was a cheap idiot and that I should just let the "d**n debt fall off anyway because my BROKE a*s can not afford to pay half." I cant believe this company conducts business this way and allows their representatives talk to people in such a manner. After listening to this think Haitian or Jamaican accent for what seemed like an eternity I asked them how it made sense to be okay with accepting nothing over something. Isnt the whole goal of a collection agency to collect something rather than nothing? I got nowhere with this individual as well and wished will wishes and said goodbye.

About an hour later I received a call from someone at National Credit Systems and she was the nastiest of them all. When I explained what was going on and after I recited the two prior failed attempts with her colleagues she proceeded to tell me the same things and was more rude, disrespectful and unwilling to resolve than the rest of them. I informed her that I had already spoken with the original debtor and that I intended to speak with her and the owner of the debtor business and I would just deal with them directly rather than deal with NCS she began to state untruths. What she told me was not factual and was saying whatever she could that made sense to her although it had absolutely no logical and no base. I work in collections and I know the my account is not a bought account which means that debt does not belong to NCS and that I was able to pay directly to the original debtor bypassing NCS. She told me that I could pay the original owner of the debt but they would then have to turn around and pay them which is not entirely true. IF it were a bought account, that may have been true. But because this is NOT a bought account I would pay NCS who would then keep 30% off what I paid and send the other 70% i paid to the original debtors. This is common knowledge and common practice. Once I stated these facts the woman got IRRATE with me and began to scream at and OVER me not allowing me to say a word. She was so DISRESPECTFUL! She then threatened me more and told me to pay the original owners and not to contact NCS anymore unless I had $1000 and thats when her accent became to much to understand.

National Credit Systems is by far one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. They are rude, unprofessional and not very well versed on the common practices of collecting. I am sickened by the tone and the manner in which I was dealt and I have every intention of contacting the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU to inform them of the nasty and inappropriate manner in which they conduct business. It was an ABSOLUTE MONSTROSITY and they should not be in business!!
