Moving notes

Spoke to Lisa on April 29, 2013to get an estimate to move household goods. Completed online inventory of house
Estimate came in on low side so I spoke to her in order to clarify. I also asked her if the company was a broker because I had heard horror stories about broker situations. Told her it seemed low and was she sure everything was included and at that time added 40 tubs in the attic. She stated that it was fine as long as it fit in the 1700 cubic feet as stated on estimate
When we narrowed down our top choices after fielding 11 estimates so I called Lisa back to clarify how their system worked. I asked her again if they were a broker and she stated that they were not. I specifically asked her if the driver was going to show up at my door and charge me more than what was on my estimate. She told me no that the estimate is binding. I told her on two separate phone conversations that I have enough household goods to fill up an 18 wheeler.  She assured me the estimate was binding and good to go.

The packers were supposed to be at my address on Friday, May 17th at 8:00 the lead packer Mike called periodically throughout the day updating me on his whereabouts. He was in mobile, Alabama still at another job. He did not arrive at my house until 7:30 that night and could only view the job as he was ver his DOT hours. He stated he would have six people with him the following morning to pack and move all in one day. Mike got there about 7:15 the next morning and we went over the paperwork. He had two other workers with him and said two more would be there after lunch. The driver arrives about 1:00 and he and mike do a walk thru and determine there was a lot more than stated on the inventory and the priced had to got up by about 3,000.00. And again later that afternoon they came to me again that they would need more money asking for another 3,000.00. This was the nightmare scenario I was trying to avoid by asking the questions I asked of Lisa.

At approximately 9:00 mike was on the phone with the dispatcher and he told mike to norm the homeowner that here would be an 800.00 additional charge for storage. The storage issue had been presented to me by Lisa at the very beginning as an added service of 30 days free if needed. I had told her we would need to utilize that service when I booked the move and it was written as such on the paperwork. Mike even stated to me when we were going over the paperwork that 30 days free storage was included. I had told Lisa how many square feet my house was, how many rooms it had and had accounted for every piece of furniture. I even over stated sizes and qty of things just so there wouldn't be any surprises. Moved in on Friday May 31st. Jamal was my driver and had one helper with him. Once he backed the truck down the cove he requested payment. When I presented a cashiers check he called into his dispatcher Adam and there seemed to be some confusion on the payment method. They were requesting cash or a postal money order. Finally after taking a picture of the check and sending to Adam he received approval to accept it. Then he was told that no other help was coming and that he needed to go down to a Home Depot and pick up a day worker. So that we didn't have to have a strange non qualified person in my home my son decided he would do it for 15.00 an hour.

As the boxes came off of the truck my husband and I started unpacking them starting with the kitchen. First thing we notated was the condition of the boxes as most of them were crushed on top. The reason they were crushed was they were not packed properly to the top or filled with paper. Just about every box we opened had broken dishes in them. Same situation with the dining room boxes that held the china. It is as if the packers had a total disregard for my breakables. We lost three china dinner plates, several decor plates, a pottery bowl, and a large glass candle holder. I had a table lamp crushed and a floor lamp with the legs broken completely off. We had one of the kitchen chair legs and one of dining room chairs completely broken off. Also had a leg on an antique buffet broken off. Had a canvas picture crushed and broken. Missing numerous items. 7' ladder, laundry baskets, back door rug, 2 wine pictures, metal scroll art, two tiered metal basket, rooster lamp and shade. I guess someone decided they liked my decor and took it home with them. I have moved no less than ten times in 30 years and have not had as much loss in all those moves put together as I have experienced in this move. Talked to Lisa about damages and missing items and she made a half attempt if at all to help me out. Spoke to Jay, the owner and he was extremely rude and uncooroperative, told me to file a claim. After speaking with Jay I cannot get anyone to answer my calls and my emails to Lisa come back as undeliverable. Funny thing is, I checked them out on BBB and they came back with an "A" rating...there is no way this company has an "A" rating on anything and they won't with the BBB when I get through with them.
