National Legal Services FRAUD! Company threatening legal action on ficticious debts! San Antonio, Texas
We keep getting calls from 210-892-1235 on both home and cell phones. I answered my cell phone and told them I do not know who that person is and she said thank you and hung up.
This is the message she left on my home phone:
"Hi this message is for ___________. I am Investigator Maxwell, I'm calling Mr. _________ in regards to a complaint that's been filed against him in court. I have a case # on file for him. Which is ________. Also a telephone number he must call as soon as possible and that is (210) 892-1235. It has been forwarded to a legal court in which he must now appear. He can forward this information over to his attorney. Him and his attorney have up to 24-48 hours to oppose this matter. Once again, I am Investigator Maxwell, thank you for your cooperation and looking forward to this legal matter, Mr. _________.
I had a similar call about three weeks ago from Louisana stating a warrant would be delivered the following day, but it never happened.
I am assuming this is a call related to a debt collection, but I am not sure. The lady who left the message is obviously reading the information from a script, and not very well. She is hard to understand.
I called 210-892-1235. "You have reached the offices of National Legal Services, if you are calling in regards to a restrained bank account or seized asset, press 1, if you are calling regarding a message left advising you of a pending legal matter press 2, if you are calling to settle a matter in lieu of court action, press 3, if you know your party's extension, press 4. "
I chose option #2, the first person answered and would not give me any information without my case number. I believe he said his name was Jason, but when I asked for his name, he would not give it to me. I asked for their address and he started yelling at me.
I called back again, and went throught the message three times, it was then automatically transferred. A rep. by the name of Anthony Smith answered. I asked for their address and he said he needed my case number first. I explained I have a case number but wanted their address. He would not give it to me. I explained I keep getting calls from them for someone else. He raised his voice and stated "you are wasting my time calling into my corporate office!" I told him that I am filing a complaint with the FTC and "DO NOT CALL MY PHONE NUMBER AGAIN!"
I checked where the calls are originating from, and it is San Antonio, TX. I found a address and phone number on www.Manta.com for National Legal Services. I called the # and it was a private residence. I asked the man if this was National Legal Services and he said that company went defunct about 10 years ago. I explained that we are getting calls from this company and he said obviously it is a scam. He said that he has also been getting a lot of calls. I told him that I would be filing a complaint with the FTC and he should do the same. He asked for the web address where his phone number is listed.
I did file a complaint with the FTC and recommend anyone receiving calls from this company do the same: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
