I called to this company because they offer me to become a millionare. The first lady that I talked to was very nice and understanding of my accent, I told her that I did no wanted to buy anything because I'm not from here. She said that I need it to talk with her supervisor.
He was a very ugly, demanding person. I did end up taking one magazine, during all this time he keep saying that the total price was only $27.00 and he did add "Free Stuff" to my order. At the end of our conversation he said that he was going to charge only $27.00 for my order and he asked me for my credit card information. I told him that I don't give that information over the phone and he got SO ANGRY with me he said that they were a very serious company, working with big companies and he said that for a little amount like this they were not going to lost their good name. I was able to convence him to send me a paper bill, and after that he transfer me with someone outs.

I felt like in a vortex with all the people that they keep transfering to me to offer me more things.
At the end of all this I new that I was going to pay a total of $27.00 because it was what everybody keep telling me.

I got a bill for that amount and I did pay for it, but now they keep sending me bills for $147.28 and treating me to place me with a nationwide collection agency, they said I'm a delinquent and that they will do stringent collection efforts to clear my due obligation with them.
The person that sign this notice is John Scott a finance director, he also said that his Finance manager has asked him to send this notice.I'm very afraid of what they will do, but at the same time I keep thinking that I already pay them for what we agree.I think also that is very dishones that they will take advantage of people like this. I have learned not to trust on anyone NEVER AGAIN.

I'd like you help you Veronica.

But I need to really understand what happened. I understand there maybe a language barrier, I'll try and cope.

1st. When you were talking to the 1st lady, did you pick out magazines? (You had to of, there's no way to get transferred to the supervisor UNLESS you pick out magazines yourself)

2nd. 27.00... I going to make an assumption that it was really 23.66 x3 for a one year package. Is this right? After you agreed to the 23.66x3 he asked you to pay for it right, and you said you didn't want to use your credit card so he transferred you to the billing dept. Im assuming again you agreed to a billing scenario that you preferred and AGREED to pay.

3rd. You said you got the bill AND paid for it. How much was it? How much dud you pay? And can you prove it?

4th. Chuck Suggested that you send a Cease and Desist letter, this will only stop them from contacting you per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you don't want this to Damage you credit you need to stay in contact with the collections agency and prove you paid, as you said you did.

5th. Did you ever recieve the Magazines?

DO NOT CALL!

If everyone really wants to put SDP/NME out of business then DO! NOT! CALL! THEM! If you must call then DO NOT buy the magazines.

I think they only gave away the $1 million three times in the first 20 years (the fourth drawing being just recently?). When I worked there I asked how often is the million given away but they didn't want to give me a straight answer. It looks like they raised the drawing to $2 million. What management genius thought of that? Did Bill Hood and Scott Brady figure out a million aint what it was 20 years ago? By the way the million was only about $400,000 if you took the lump sum instead of the 30 year payout and after taxes probably less than $250,000.

GREED

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

This is why companies like this continue to exist and prosper. I can rant and rave all day and night about NME/SDP, you people can come on this site and moan and complain about how you were abused, and claim you were lied to (which in most cases you were NOT lied to as much as you have selective hearing and memories).

Companies like this would cease to exist in a matter of weeks if YOU would get a grip on reality and stop allowing the SDP's of the world to play on your STUPIDITY and GREED. Like so many lemmings you get those papers in the mail and all of a sudden your ability to think in a critical, logical, rational manner (assuming you had it to begin with). And all of a sudden as if by magic, you are all going to become MILLIONAIRES!

Now, it is nice to have goals, dreams and aspirations. But boys and girls, success in this life is predicated on the basis of hard work, education, application, an ethical center and maybe a little luck. You will not get it out of an envelope under the banner of Pat Haines, d**k Clark, Ed McMahon or any other paid corporate shill with a snappy bag of tricks.

I have said this before, there is NO free lunch, no shortcut to enlightenment, no easy path through life and SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT EXIST.

You want to stop all this? Only YOU can by throwing away your junk mail and stop being so dense! You want magazines? Order them, it is a good deal, but quit fooling yourselves as to your motivations. You think that purchasing will put you in a "special catagory" which will increase your chances of winning. IT WILL NOT. Even THEY will tell you that. You then get buyers remorse and whip up the horror stories. SDP is honest to the extent that it has to make sales in order to exist and will tell you as much. That is trhe function of ANY business. The "public" needs to be equally honest about itself and WHY it feeds companies such as this one.

Veronica, who was holding that phone to your ear other than yourself? Who was pointing a gun at you forcing you to continue on with the call? HANG UP.

Now that the damage has been done, although I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advise, you might want to send them a letter instructing them to "cease and desist" their collection efforts, same with any Collection Agency they may employ. If they do not, consult a lawyer. If you are so worried about your credit, do not spend like a sailor on shore leave.

If the rest of you want to put NME out of business, DO NOT CALL THEM!
