Yes, this company is a ripoff.  National Park Reservations is very good at search engine optimization, so they often appear at the top of a search list.  National Park Reservations charges a 10% fee above the cost of the reservation, which is disclosed in small print--especially if you end up in the middle of the site from a search engine.

You start by making a reservation request--this doesn't necessarily book the reservation.  When I made the reservation request, they then called me back.  Since they called me, I did not hear the warning on their phone number that says they charge the fee (I only heard it when I called to complain).  If this was by design or mistake, I can't say.  After talking to the sales rep, it was not clear that the 10% fee was on top of the other charges.  Only when I got my credit card statement did I realize what this firm had done.  There were two charges--one for the reservation and one for the "fee".  NPR charges exorbitant fees for a simple service.

When I complained, the firm did refund half of the fee, but I still feel victimized.

Avoid this firm at all costs.  They hide behind disclaimers and fail to do the right thing when confronted about their deceptive practices.

I should have read the fine print more closely, but I give this warning so all of you will hopefully avoid National Park Reservations and the problems I encountered.

Good luck when dealing with this firm.

Mike
