I have also been scamed by this company. 3 years ago I agreed for a 2 year magazine subscription. When my credit card expired, they never called me to update the information, instead I had received a letter saying that if I did not pay the 120 some dollars that i had owed, that they would send it to collections. I received 3 letters exactly the same until the last one said final notice, so I had called the 800 number given and paid the money that I owed. I specifically asked the lady if this was the very last payment and would I have any future payments. The representative said that this was infact the last payment.

One year later The company called me again and said that I still had 3 years left on my agreement and that I too also owed 1,700 some dollars and that my monthly payments would be lowered to 59.90 a month as well. When I had asked for the cancellation Policy, they said that I could not cancell my subscription; that I was in a Binding agreement. So I had asked for the cancellation policy and agreement to be sent to me along with the updated list of magazines (incase the agreement was legal). They said that they would send it to me.

This was 3 months ago and I have yet to receive either the agreement or updated magazine list. I have called twice (once amonth) asking for the information, both times apparently talking to a manager and both times said that they never received such a request. Their customer service people keep calling me telling me that I owe money and that they will lower my payments and each time I tell them that I'm waiting to receive my cancellation policy and every time the rep at the other end of the phone says they just handle payments, that i need to call the 800-304-8567 number to deal with that. What do I do.

I'm in the midst of calling my credit card company and unauthorizing those purchases, but if this is a valid company, I don't want anything going to collections!

Update on National Readers Service

I've contacted the customer service reps again for the third time, explaining the entire situation again and request again to receive the cancelation infor and policy agreements. They had said that they had never received any request for such information. I talked to a Jessica who was a manager and told her my situation. It turns out that when they had called saying that i owed money and that i was still in my old subscription agreement and threatend to send it to collections if i did not agree to pay was really a guy REsubscribing me to the company again and that i really had agreed to a whole BRAND new subscription. After talking with Jessica she appologized and said that the way the information was presented to me was not the way it was suppose to be done. She infact Cancelled the subscription that i unknowingly signed up fo and is refunding me the money they started to take out for that subscription. Shes sending my info up the chain of command to be handled and investigated. Soo lets see what happends..
