National Recovery Agency National Recovery refuses to provide proof that a debt is mine. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Around early summer, I was notified through the credit report service that I use that something had shown up on my report. When I checked it out, it was a collection item from National Recovery in Harrisburg, PA. It was only reported on Equifax, so I filed a dispute with them. It came back that National Recovery said the debt was indeed mine. I am about 99.9% sure that it cannot be mine, because according to the report, the date of first delinquency was back in October of 2004, and all I had back then was one or two credit cards with my mother, and we always paid them on time. I don't even have any clue what the debt is suppose to be, because their "client" is listed Capital Assistance Group. So, I'm guessing, that means they bought the crappy debt from someone else, right?
I started researching around the 'net and decided to send them a certified letter with return receipt, asking that they either provide the proof that this debt was mine or else have the item removed from my credit report. This was about two months ago, and nothing has happened at all.
I filed complaints with both the FTC and the Pennsylvania Attorney General. So, what exactly happens now? Am I just stuck with this on my credit report? I refuse to pay these people, because I know the debt is not mine, I simply cannot afford to waste money right now, and I have no guarantees that the item will even be removed if I pay them.
Also, where exactly is this "company" located? Does anyone know? On the Equifax report, it gives the address as 4201 Crums Mill Road in Harrisburg. I searched for National Recovery and found a National Recovery Agency (http://www.nationalrecovery.com/) in Harrisburg, but it was at a different address. When I sent my certified letter, it got rerouted when it hit Harrisburg, so I'm guessing the Crums Mill road address is out-of-date, perhaps? I guess after the ripped enough people off, they were able to get some new digs.

National recovery agency amd natioanl recovery cemter are two completely.separate gencies. amd national recovery agency goes by.nra group, llc. Theu have two physicsl locations- one is on paxton st in Harrisburg, PA and the other is 3 Crossgates Drive Mechanicsburg, Pa 17050 and their po box address- po box 67015 Harrisburg, PA 17106. Their contact number is 800-814-6580 and ask for supervisor ext. 3100- altho this line is routed to "seasoned" collectors and not actually supervisors. If you rezlly want to speak to a supervisor, call in amd demand tospeak to one right there and don't let them transfer you. Supervisors at the Crossgates location are Kevin, Cynthia, Mike and Steele as of today. There is high turnover so you never know.
(Sorry for the typos. Myphone isn't making this easy.)

Update on my situation

Well, it would seem that the PA Attorney General's office took care of this situation for me. I must say, considering how busy I am sure they are, it only took them a couple of months to get around to resolving my extremely minor case. I am sure, though, they have gotten plenty of complaints about these guys, considering the other reports I have seen about them. Anyway, for those having problems with these jokers, here is the updated contact information I got off their letterhead (from a letter they sent to the AG's office):
