In 1999 four new tires were purchased along with road hazard warranty. The tires have less than 30,000 miles on them. On 11-30-02 I struck something on the road causing a large chunk of tread to peel from the tires center. Being that an NTB in South Austin along the motor mile On IH 35 was the closest at the time I went there.

I was told the tire was over four years old (so it was already one year old when they put it on) and the manufacturer would not warranty any part of it. The service agreement states nothing about tire age. The tires are on the same vehicle and have over half the tread left. I went to their competitor and had to purchase two new tires. The second so that I had a matching side.

How can this be a ripoff?

I have been a Auto Technician for 8 years. (Mercedes Benz) As far as I know there are NO tire companies or tire stores that cover damage to a tire due to you striking an object. Most road hazzard warranties are very tricky as well. Besides 4 years and 30,000 miles the way most people treat the car they own is pretty good.
