Solicited a 93 year old man by telephone and "sweet talked" him into giving his payment information for an extended warranty on a car, which car, he told them, only had 9,000 miles on it. Not only is he 93, but he is hard of hearing. He thought he was signing on for a $300 policy that would cover everything on his car for another 75,000 miles, including accidents.
He was led to believe he was speaking with HONDA about his Honda. He received a mailing, which he gave to me, daughter-in-law, to check for him. After seeing the paperwork, I explained to him they were NOT HONDA, they now had his bank account number and were charging him almost $3,000 and they were taking out a $300 deposit and taking out $200 a month. He flipped! I called them to cancel for him, as this was a COMPLETE rip off, whoever talked to him on the phone knew they were dealing with an old person, as you can tell from his voice and also you have to shout on the phone so he can hear.
AND, even if they didn't know he was 93, why would they push something like this on a virtually brand new Honda that only had 9000 miles on it!!! And they knew the mileage because it's on the paperwork they mailed him! Trying to cancel was OUTRAGEOUS. First person on the phone kept INSISTING on telling me "you are going to have to pay for all repairs out of pocket" "repairs are expensive" and on and on and ON AND ON despite the fact I kept saying CANCEL THIS IMMEDIATELY.
I kept telling her he did not want this, he was 93, the car only had 9000 miles on it, this is a rip off, she had the NERVE to say to me that I should take his checking account away so this doesn't happen. I said, HOW ABOUT NOT RIPPING OFF OLD PEOPLE! Got the same rigamarole when I was FINALLY put through to customer service. Still kept trying to SELL SELL SELL. They ultimately would not cancel and said we had to notify them in writing and REFUSED to give a fax number and said it had to be put in the mail.
We then sent it to them, and sent all info to the bank, and also to the company that withdraws the money on their behalf (paylink) and also the company that funds any claims they would have which was out of Florida. They were HORRIBLE to deal with and are obvious scammers. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE A COMPLETE RIP OFF and SCAM ELDERLY.
