I purchased an '08 Honda Civic SI model new in 2009 w/ 56 miles on it when I left the dealership. With the flawless civic Si I purchased an extended warranty through National Warranty Corporation (NWC) that was good for 75k and/or 60 months, it was supposed to cover any type of mechanical damage including internal damage to the transmission. At 68,xxx miles the transmission randomly blew up to the point it was completly undrivable. As I came to a dead stop it felt as if I was being rear ended over and over, the car would not move after it stopped and felt as if the clutch went out yet being a mechanic I knew the tranny blew. I had the car towed by AAA to Gladstone Honda and they had confirmation that I did have an extended warranty through (NWC) and began the tear down and inspection of my cars transmission. Once they had the transmission out and the case separated they called NWC to come and do an inspection and take they're little pictures. Once National Warranty Corp. Dod they're part, they were only willing to cover $1,400 of the damage. NWC stated it was because of a bearing that failed in the transmission and they were only going to cover the bearing that failed and the maintenance to replace it. The 2008 Civic Si needed a whole new transmission. NWC said it was my fault because I should have know the transmission was going to blow up and I should have taken it into honda as soon as I felt or heard anything abnormal. The car did not make any noise or drive any different befor it blew up, it just happend. After explaining this over and over again to NWC employees and finally speaking to they're "super qualified manager" (sarcastic) Mike, I still could'nt budge them, he even ran it by his supervisor and they were still unable to help me. They were still only willing to warranty just shy of $1,400 when the total cost was going to be $6,200. I went to Gladstone Town and Country Honda about 2 weeks later to pick up the transmission so I could install new internals in the existing case and then bring back to Honda so they can install it. Just my luck Don Waters the service manager happened to be walking by, we had a conversation and he told me that he would talk to national warranty corporation and see if you can maybe help with the matter. The next day I got a call from Don, he said, "I have good news and I have bad news, the bad news is national warranty is not going to cover anything for you other than the 1400, the good news is Honda is going to buy you a brand new transmission". Honda did not have to do that at all, they ate $5,000 for me just because even they knew a car with less then 70k on it should not have exploded to where nearly every gear in the tranny was in pieces. NWC is a joke and could not have realized that, they were not willing to stand true to they're warrany, they even suggested I go through arbitration against them. Never buy a warranty through National Warranty Corp. THEY ARE A JOKE.
