I moved into Gateway Lakes Apartments (located in Grove City, OH 43123) in March 2014 and have had to deal with ridiculous bills from Nationwide Energy Partners (NEP). My first months Electric Bill with just 12 days of the billing period (as I moved in in the middle of the month) was $197.49 and since then its raised up to $300 a month!

I live in a small two bedroom apartment ALONE. I spend the majority of my time at work, working overtime and sleeping.. so why my electric bill is now $300 this month, Im absolutely astounded! My brother also lives in this same apartment complex and is dealing with the same exact absurd amounts every single month. We are at a lose on what to do, because its becoming very difficult to get by every month paying so much for electric thats barely being used.

Households who have multiple people living in them are paying much less. Everyone I know and have talked to are also baffled by how much I am having to pay every month. It seems very sketchy.

This apartment complex doesnt offer any other electric company and have heard several complaints about NEP from their residents, so I am beginning to wonder if they are getting something out of it by only allowing their residents this particular electric company. Something is not right about this and its time something is done.

Oh okay, so a regular $225-250 electric bill a month is what you consider normal for a small apartment with 1 person living it? I use a laptop daily, sometimes a telvision when im watching it & lights.. thats ALL I use on a daily basis. I spend more time at work and sleeping than I do at home. $250 for that is absurd. I'm not sure what NEP is gaining from it, but I will be leaving this apartment complex for THIS reason alone and will never deal with this electric company ever again. Households pay less, I'm better off renting or owning a house.

The $197.49 bill that Amber references in her post was in fact a partial month bill.  Her usage for those 12 days was $47.49. The reason the bill was $197.49 was because it include a $150 first time customer deposit.  NEP offers several ways to avoid paying a deposit like signing up for auto bill pay or providing letter of good standing from a previous utility.

Amber also references a $300 bill.  She did receive a bill for approximately $300 in July.  That bill amount was the highest amount we have seen on her account since she began service and can be attributed to two factors that temporarily increased her typical bill amount.  First, the month of July had 23 days above 80 degrees, the second most days above 80 that we have seen all year leading to one of the highest monthly electric loads we have experienced in 2014 to date (August was the highest with 27 days).  Secondly, in order to adjust for uneven days in a month two of our billing months have 35 days in them rather than 28.  July was one of those months meaning it included an extra week of usage versus her normal bill period.

NEP attempted to reach out to Amber on two different occasions but has not yet heard back.  We would be happy to meet with her at any time to explain the details her usage.

Hey real sorry to hear what your going through. I live in New York and this is how electric and gas works with us. We can not choose who delivers our electric or gas to us. We can only choose where it is purchased from. where I live Con Edision owns all the gas and electric lines. With that being said, Con Edision can not make any profit from the cost of gas or electric. What they pay for it, we pay as well. What they can do is charge us for the delivery and service of the lines going into our homes/apartments. We can choose a company that sells us the gas or electric but in my personal opinion they are so overpriced I stick with Con Edision. It would be a lot easier if you posted a picture of the bill to see exactly what you are being charged for to see why this bill is so high. It could be possicle that there is someone else's apartment that is also on your meter and that's why it is so high. I'm not saying that it's the case here but it is possible. The bill should give you a breakdown on what you are paying for ( delivery charges , usage, etc.). You might find that you have a issue or that in fact, what you are paying for is correct. The price does seem high but then again I don't live in your state. I only know what goes on here. I really hope this might help and if you have any questions at all please post back.
