This company called me near the end of May 2008 about a very old debt I would like have settled. It was nearly off my credit, but I wanted to do the right thing and pay it. The gentleman I spoke to from NCC said he would freeze my interest and allow me to make low monthly payments as long as he received the payment by the end of the May. He said to make sure to call him with the payment so he could make sure to freeze the interest on the account. I don't like to do phone payments but decided in this case to agree to a one-time payment to freeze the interest. I even talked to someone claiming to be a supervisor to confirm this one-time payment. I also asked to have my payments be due the 30th of the month.

I sent a payment in June. When they received the payment, they called and asked why I mailed a payment when they are taking it out automatically out of my account every month. I advised them I did not agree to them taking it directly out of my account every month and told them I would be making my payments by mail. They said they could not freeze the interest unless I did the automatic payments. The guy I talked to was new and told me wrong. I advised them if their new employees were not trained properly, that was not my fault. I wanted the verbal agreement we made in May to be honored and the automatic payments removed. I added that I was told the original call was recorded.
They refused to hold up their end of the deal and if I continued to make the small payment we agreed on, it would only go to interest and not to the principle. I honestly believe this was a scam to get me to make a payment so it would not come off my credit next year.
