I was charged 30+ dollars (each) for three phone calls I made at a payphone in North Hollywood, California, in front of a Smart and Final Store. I locked my keys, wallet and phone in the car. I attempted to make the first phone call with the $.50 that I had in my pocket and the phone took the money without placing the call. The phone listed the cost of the call as $.035, I called "0" to let the operator know that I lost the money and heard the automated announcement saying I could use a credit card. Since I knew one of my credit card numbers by heart I decided to use it, I had parrishables in my car and needed to get home. At no time did the auto message say that I was going to be charged 30+ dollars for each call.

The first call know one picked up, phone went to voice mail, I hung up, I called my mother's number and was able tp get through, stayed on the phone less than 3 minutes, I called her again about 15 minutes later to make sure someone was on the way, stayed on the phone less than a minute, becuase I saw that my sister had pulled up.

A few days letter I checked my bank statement and noticed that I was charged $30.34, $30.28 and $30.22 for the three phone calls. The statement list NCIC Operator Services as the company that charged me. No where in the auto message or the pay does it say that using your credit card would be such an extreme cost. I called the number listed on my statement for NCIC Operator Service, located in Longview Texas and was told that they could only return $36.33 out of the $90.84 I was charged for less than 5 minutes of use on the pay phone.
