I had done a move with Neighbors Moving and Storage on June 20, 2009 from Lowell, MA to Nashua, NH. This was a local move with distance of around 15 miles.

On the phone I was given a quote of $74 per hour by one of their employees Andrew Bunting with 3 hr minimum (2 hrs for move + 1 hr). However, on the day of the actual move, I was charged $95 per hour rate and was threatened to cancel the move if I did not pay up. This is pure fraud and blackmailing in my opinion.

I contacted the company after the move and the answer I got was that Andrew Bunting does not work for Neighbors Moving and Storage anymore so they cannot do anything. This is rather lame. Why should I pay up extra if one of their employees quit?

I believe I was overcharged $21 per hour extra which equates to $63 for 3 hr move.

The reason why I was given a quote of $74 per hour was to just get my business.

This was a cool trick played by the company - give a fake quote, get business and then on the day of the move threaten to pay up extra.

The quote of $74 per hour was for 2 men and on the day of the move
2 men showed up. I agree $74 per hour is pretty cheap, the next
lowest quote I had got was for $80 per hour. Cost was the main reason
I went with Neighbors Moving and Storage. Little did I know, that the
quote was fake and was given to me just to get my business. They knew
that on the day of the move, they can give an updated quote and I
will have to pay them.

Not sure why you are defending this company, are you an employee of
this company. If they had given me the correct quote, i would have moved
with some other mover. Lot of movers are ready to move for $80 per hour f
for 2 men. Not sure why you think $95 per hour is cheap. I think it is pretty
expensive.

May Not Be A Rip Off

There is insufficient information. What would be helpful is to provide the following information for others:

1. How many men was the quote for and how many showed up? Could it be that 2 were quoted and 3 showed up?

2. Did they break anything?

3. Did they take longer than the 3 hours? Did it take less time??

Just to let you know, $74 is VERY cheap and you could have ended up with people off the street doing your move. As it is $95 per hour is also cheap; the going rate for 3 professional movers doing a local move is around $105-$145 per hour.

Moving is not an inexpensive venture and choosing the cheapest quote can often end up costing you more in the long run. Selecting a reputable mover is FAR MORE important than choosing the cheap mover.
