Complaint Review: Nelson Lee

 This guy is well known in the Asian party circuit.  He used to host the biggest parties for a decade at the old Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel.  So, when he offered to sell me half of his shares in the profits of the venue, because he needed more capital for another business venture he had with his girlfriend, I lept on it.  He gave me a schedule of about how much they earn per month and I felt it was a double bonus.  Not only was I helping someone I've known and respected for 10 years, but I also was getting a piece of the club scene that I'm a part of.  Win Win.

He paid me in full the first month but I had to leave the country so I expected a fat check when I got back.  That didn't happen.  He asked for more time because of troubles with his gf, the flooring business wasn't doing well, and his chicken business had some difficulty.  The excuses went on and on (some went as far as: his gf has cancer, he had to cover a friend's gambling debts) but I figured since we've known each other for so long, it was fine to give him a break.  Plus, he was reorganizing the company and needed to get some people out so I can become a full partner.  It was 9 months later that he started to pay me again and things were fine again.  That lasted only like 3 months before he told me his mom was going to cover any short payments by Christmas in 2012.

That time came and went and we tried to renegotiate in Feb 2013.  But when his promises fell empty again, he stopped picking up my phone calls or responding txts and eventually emails.

Some of his other close friends tell me he's notoriously bad in paying people back and that includes his own family.  All he had to do was set aside the money he promised me when he was paid and all would've been fine.  He'll make excuses until the end of the world.
