Two months ago, I found out that someone living in my home used my netspend card to make purchases online. I did NOT give this person permission to use my card. I immediately filed a dispute with Netspend. I was informed that the dispute department at Netspend would handle it immediately. Fast forward a few weeks. I received a "provisional refund" from Netspend. I thought there was no way I could lose the dispute because although the purchases were made from my card, any fool could see that the shipment was not coming to me. I found out yesterday that Netspend took the "refund" back off my card. When I called them, I was informed that I had lost the dispute. When I asked how that was possible, I was told that the merchants "validated" the purchases made. I did not dispute the fact that the purchases were made with my card. I disputed the fact that I did not AUTHORIZE the purchases. I was informed that the dispute was closed and there was nothing anyone could do. So I asked if this was how Netspend treated all their customers whose identities had basically been stolen. I was told that someone from the dispute department would contact me within 24 hours. Well, 24 hours has come and gone without a phone call.

To anyone thinking about working with Netspend, do yourself a favor. Run as far away from this company as far and as fast as you can. They will eventually screw you over, like they have so many other people. Myself included.

Last time I checked, Netspend cards are little different than prepaid gift cards, usable by the bearer (that being anyone with the codes). It's a lot like leaving cash in the open, never a good idea with someone untrustworthy in the house. Next time, secure your stuff.

There's no reason Netspend should respond like a credit card company would in this situation. You're going to have to get the money back yourself. If you know who did it, ask nicely first. If that doesn't work, sue in small claims.

Should have been "You are not going to like this", not "Your not going to like this"

But you are wrong.

The reason your dispute was denied was for one main reason....you not only know the person who did it but they live in the same house.  Whether or not this is the case, just about every bank would see this as what could best be described as an "inside job".  That is while you may not be doing this, there would be many people who would be "working" with the other person to try and get free merchandise.

If you think your identity was stolen you need to file a police report and have this other person arrested.  If you are unwilling to do that then that just plays right into the "inside job" theory.  Your only choice right now would be to get the money from this other person, if they refuse to pay it then you would need to file a suit in small claims against them.
