Network Solutions - holding our domain hostage - Ripoff

They are holding our domain name, and refusing to release it to another registrar (breaking ICANN rules).

In my opinion this is a blatant attempt to force us to pay them for renewal through them and stop us purchasing domain registration services from anybody else. We registered a domain in March 2001.

We attempted to transfer it to another registrar on December 27th. On January 1st they said they were refusing the transfer because we had not confirmed an email they sent us. We never received this email - we receive all their other emails just fine.

On January 1st I called them. I first spoke to "Kristina" (refused to give her full name) who said there was a backlog of emails and that she would send it again while I was on the line - then she cut me off.

I then spoke to "Bob" who changed the story and said they had sent the email on December 28th - note the inconsistency with Kristina's version - and no we didn't receive it.

I then spoke to Bob's supervisor Michael Hendricks who said it was my fault - and I should start over.

Mr Hendricks was aggressive from the start and did not even want me to explain the problem. If I start over, it's no use, as they simply can deny it again.

The registrar I was trying to transfer to pull my fat from the fire. I should also note, the new registrar, did this for free (which they didn't have to, because it wasn't their mistake) - and replied to emails promptly and courteously.

The new registrar resubmitted the transferal, and 2nd time round I got lucky.

The funny thing is the new registrar told me this happens frequently, and all they can do in these cases is to keep on resubmitting and eventually hope to get lucky.

I'm still annoyed at Network Solutions and will NEVER buy anything from them ever again. I didn't like the way they handled this one bit. I didn't like the rudeness and inconsistent explanations. And most importantly of all, I don't think that they should be putting obstacles in the way of me buying services from other vendors.
