On a hot Sunday afternoon we experienced a bad neutral caused by faulty wiring in Nevada Powers curbside electric box. This is sort of like having Steven Speilberg special effects in your house, lights buring 20 times brighter and then blowing out, wires burning, surge strips sparking....

It smoked the microwave, stove, diswasher and lots of other stuff. Our surge strips saved the computer, tv etc.

The kitchen appliances were 8 yrs. old, black and in excellent condition.

Our homeowners strongly advised us to file with Nevada Power for two reasons, to avoid the deductible and to prevent a claim from being on our record.

After filing the claim with Nevada Power we were advised
that the appliances have depreciated and have little or no value. Without any discussion they simply mailed a check - which I do not plan to accept - covering the newer and smaller items and stating the appliance had depreciated to no value.

We don't want more than what we had and it is going to cost between 1200-1500 to replace the appliances.

Nevada Power gets full replacement plus expenses when an accident damages one of their 30 year old utility poles.

I have advised them that my next step is Small Claims Court.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
