Heather Alton at New England Kitchen and Bath ordered a countertop from us for her customer via a written purchase order referencing a certain color stone that had been quoted. We fabricated delivered and installed it flawlessly. The next day we were called because it was not the stone the customer wanted! It was clearly an error on NEKB's part.
We immediately reordered material and within 3 days had removed the original stone and replaced it with the desired color.
This was two years ago and she has yet to pay me. I even agreed to write-off the original installation after trying to collect for 9 months with a promise to receive payment for the second - she never paid a nickel!
Not only did she admit there was a mistake, she had fired the employee that placed the order, but she promised - several times - to pay.
In the interim I have discovered that she owes several other countertop fabricators thousands of dollars as well. She refuses to take phone calls, promises return calls and checks and NEVER EVER follows thorugh. I have no idea how she's in business.
At one point I received notification from a NJ company that they had been employed to fix her payables situation. She had no way of paying everythig she owed. This company wanted us to sign an agreement to accept something less than full value in return for them making payments to us in a slow but (promised) regular payment pattern. Those payments never materialized so I called them. Surprise surprise, Heather wasn't paying them either!
Somehow NEKB continues to operate even while most subcontractors know to stay away from her. I know of 5 countertop guys who won't work with her unless it's paid in advance!
No doubt she has financed her business on the backs of a bunch of business like mine. Stay away from this company - they are shysters! If I had acted quickly enough I could have liened the project so the owner would be on the hook (even though they probably paid her) but I was being told I was going to get paid.
