After renting a Budget truck for my move, I picked up my truck on a Saturday and was only given 1 location  to drop it off on Sunday in  NewmarketNH.

Knowing I had to leave the truck full I stopped 1 mile prior to getting to this Budget Rental agents location and filled the gas tank. When the gas was ready to spill out  I forced the  last $1  in and quickly brought the truck to the drop off location.

First she started yelling at me that the gas tank was not full and quickly questioned weather I had a receipt. I was never told to do this, only bring the truck back full. When she discovered I didnt have a receipt she could barely contain herself knowing she would be charging my card anyway by making up stories and fraudulently charging my credit card she had access to.

I told her I would take this up with Budget and that I was not about to be taken advantage of. She then proceeded to charge my card for fuel that apparently went into another truck as there was no possible way any more gas would have went into the truck I rented.

She also lied to Budget saying the tank was 1/3 of the way full when I returned it,

This is a nice quick way for this criminal to start racking up money from unsuspecting people. Budget agreed to refund the $30 refueling fee but I am still out the $18 she stole.

She also happens to run a self storage business and I can only imagine how much extra revenue she is racking up in stealing money from unsuspecting peoples credit cards she might have on file.

Its about time this company is called out and the thief running this business is called out.

Newmarket Self Storage More Lies

#5Author of original report

Unbelievable.

So many lies and they just keep digging themselves in further in further.

In regards to how much fuel a truck takes and the difference between a car and a truck they were not aware I have personally worked in the transportation industry for over 14 yrs. I have worked for unscrupulous companies like this and certainly know the tricks of the trade.

I certainly dont need a lesson on the amount of fuel a truck takes or the difference between a car and a truck.

What they tried telling me was the truck was not full. When I insisted it was she was nasty and spoke to me like I was an idiot. Apparently thinking Id be an easy target. ..

The long drawn out explanation of trying to justify stealing from someone isnt needed.

I have been in the industry way too long to allow this company to try and take advantage from me. It breaks my heart that they are most definitely doing this to others as well.

Im sure theres a very valid reason why they are not members of the Better Business Bureau. Then perhaps potential victims would have a heads up and be warned. FYI the never even bothered replying to the BBB in the complaint I filed. They never wanted to resolve this.

Stealing $18 is one thing but a stupid business decision since that 1 customer that caught you will make her mission to forewarn all others.

Speaking to hundreds of clients a day that will be unable to afford to use my companies full services, I will be referring them to a reputable storage and/or truck rental agency. They will be told about this unscrupulous company.

Since my company has a branch very close to this self storage and I field hundreds of calls from clients in this area needing self storage and /or truck rental I will ensure the word gets out.

Unlike Newmarket Self Storage we are a premier company that would NEVER steal from a client, have been open for close to 30 yrs, are members of the BBB and have won several prestigious awards. I field hundreds of calls with people that are seeking our referrals. I will ensure that they are warned about Newmarket and have the rest of the company do so as well.

Word of mouth is a powerful toll and can be a great one if you are not a company stealing from clients.

FYI This practice of stealing seems to be common with Budget Truck Rentals. I typed in Budget and more than half of the complaints are from people that experienced this fuel scheme from agents all over the US.

They most certainly do get to keep the cost of the fuel and NOT Budget. Its a lucrative scheme they have going on, they just happened to pull it on someone that was the wiser and has been in the industry a bit longer.

Truck Rental

#5UPDATE Employee

Tue, December 22, 2009

This customer failed to mention that she was asked by the employee to get into the truck and confirm that the guage was reading 3/4 of a tank.  She confirmed it but still refused to acknowledge she needed to finish filling it.  She was given the opportunity to take the truck back to the gas station and finish filling it to avoid additional fees but refused to do so.

There was only 1 charge slip showing the fuel was charged to an account belonging to Newmarket Storage.  We use a commercial Irving account and purchase all our fuel at Circle K.  It was not charged to the customers account at the pumps.  The rental agreement was then closed out showing the amount we had to pay to fill it up.  Budget charges the customer and then reimburses us for the cost of the fuel.  This I believe is the second receipt she is referring to.  The gas receipt is stamped 1:09pm because we were busy waiting on customers and had to wait until we closed to gas it up.  We close at 1:00pm on Sunday's.  As for the amount of $18.00, Budget trucks have 40 gallon fuel tanks.  Budget customer service was advised that the truck came in at 3/4.  By rights the truck should have taken between 10 and 12 gallons of gas as these trucks only get 8-10 miles to the gallon.  That can be confirmed by anyone who does truck rentals.  They are not cars. They weigh more than 3x's what the average car weighs when there is a load in the back so it stands to reason they get poor gas mileage. The rental agreement showed a total miles used as 100.  We never request fuel slips under regualar circumstances but in this case, if the customer had been able to provide a fuel slip showing she put between 10 and 12 gallons of gas into the truck there would never had been an issue.  In conclusion, and in our defense, I have to say that in 12 years of renting trucks I have never, not once, encountered this problem.  I am sorry that she feels she was wronged.  Dispite what she says about us, we are honest, dependable and trustworthy.  We have hundreds of satified storage and truck customers who  use us time and time again because of our reputation.  Again, I am sorry she feels this way and this will be our final rebuttal to this attack on our integrity.

Although the $30 went to Budget the cost of supposed fuel went to Newmarket Storage...

#5Author of original report

Because this supposed good company are not members of the Better Business Bureau I needed to resolve the complaint strictly with Budget,

Because Newmarket is one of their agents they finally agreed to refund the cost of the supposed fuel.

There seems to be no end to Newmarket's Self Storage lies.

First they claim that the tank was not full, and then they claimed that they put $18 in yet also told Budget that the tank was 1/3 full. $18 to fill a 16 foot truck 2/3s Really? . Thats funny that they could even put $18 since I could barley get in the last $1 it was so full.

The Math no matter how you look at it; it doesnt add up.

They also sent Budget 2 different receipts and tried claiming one of the receipts was mine.

I never obtained receipts and the 1 receipt they claimed was mine was time stamped at 1:09pm after I returned the truck.

The bottom is Newmarket's representatives were rude, took money that was not theirs to take and keep lying instead of addressing the issue.

Even a bad company would eventually realize that they have created so many lies that they have finally been caught red handed.

They wrote

. There is no advantage for Newmarket Storage to over charge any costomer.

1st of all I was a customer not a costomer. The  advantage to claiming the truck was not full would be placing fuel in another vehicle altogether knowing Budget cant prove otherwise or the customer. I realize times are tough but being a thief isnt the answer.

They wrote : We rent hundred's of trucks to satisfied customers .I am sorry this customer had a bad experience but her money went to Budget not Newmarket

Again this is just another lie. The cost of the supposed fuel to fill either another truck or your personal vehicle went to Newmarket storage. Furthermore, it was not Budget that charged my card it was Newmarket Self Storage. You may rent 100s of trucks but their time to stop scamming people is now and they are finally being called out on it.

They wrote Newmarket is a good community

Newmarket the town may be a good community but Newmarket Self Stoarge is not a good company.  I wonder how many residents are aware of what type of business Newmarket Self Storage is running.

Its time they knew,,,,

However, we are charged if the truck is not full of fuel for the next renter. There is no advantage for Newmarket Storage to over charge any costomer. We rent hundred's of trucks to satisfied customers .I am sorry this customer had a bad experience but her money went to Budget not Newmarket Storage .The $30 dollar fee is Budgets' not ours . Newmarket is a good community business.
