Synapse Group, Inc This is the name of the NewSub Magazine Services LLC responsible for the magazine subscription rip off under the condition that they are free for the first six months. The problem is that you have to call during the six month trial period to cancel, and they do not furnish any contact phone or any other information as to how to get in contact with the actual Synapse group, Inc. to cancel.

You will get a renewal notice after the first year, but not before the six months are up and your first credit card charge has been deducted.

I called the credit card issuer and they said they had no way of knowing who I was talking about before the charge was effectively posted on my account.

When I called the phone number listed : (203) 595-8255 as the main number, I was asked for the name of the party I wanted to talk to or leave a message. Since I did not know the name of whoever is in charge of cancellations I opted to leave a message. The problem is that I was requested to give the box number of the person I wanted to leave the message to. Which I just do not know. After three automatic requests for the box number the automatic responder told me that since I did not know who to leave the message the call was being terminated. "Please call back again when you have the number, good bye."

This is the message I left on their website after I was able to hunt them down on the internet.

This is my official notice to cancel the following subscriptions:
Martha Steward Living
Natural Health
Popular Science
Weight Watchers Magazine

These magazines subscriptions started about mid September of 2007 as a free six-month offer from my credit card 4418 4091 9705 2971 .

The subscriptions are in the name of Fred **** and the shipping address is: (((redacted))).

Please confirm the cancellation to my e-mail address: (((redacted)))

Thank you

I called the number and was contacted by an automated female voice that requested yes or no answers to the questions she asked. Only the magazine titles had to be spoken.
The questions are so cleverly staged that instead of cancelling I agreed to continue the subscription for an additional year.
do you want to cancel the upcoming charge and process your new term?
The answer to this question is NO. I answered yes, had therefore agreed to an immediate charge of a one year subscription to the magazine I wanted to cancel.

I have also faced similar situation.

The customer service number provided (1-800-641-3465) had automated voice requesting yes/no answers. And when the system couldn't make out the magazine title I was saying after repeated trials, the call was re-directed to customer service representative. Before doing that, the automated system also mentioned a website address was which turned out to be the customer service website of the company.

Website address is www.magcustomerservice.com
To cancel the offer/order, you need to provide some details from a list of options. subscription id/ last name & zip code / billing date/ billing account number / confirmation number/magazine title etc.
If you opt for canceling the subscription, it'll keep asking questions to which you should answer Yes/No. In my case, I'd to answer NO to all of those.
*Always and I repeat, Always read the question carefully*, because the questions are structured in a way that you may misunderstand the intention and answer wrongly
