Nextel Communications refusal to terminate service without early term fee, refusal to shut off phone, If I paid it would be back on Denver Colorado
On 8/14 I asked to pay the contract in full, 9/11/05 the contract end date. I was told that I be charged the full termination fee even though I would be paying the bill in full, just not renewing the contract. Customer service told me that I would have to wait till 9/11to shut it off.
Sept. 9 I spoke with customer service again, for four hours. I was again told that they would not shut off the phone "without significant fees"! They also wanted a passcode that I had no record of; I have all the paperwork that this account has generated. I found out later that this passcode was one I never use, last four digits of SS#.
None of the 5 people I spoke to on this call could give me a supervisor or a corporate address or phone number. I then waited till Sept. 11. This call took 7 hours, I spoke to 1 person in finance who was unable to assist me in any way except to imform me that a $300.00 fee was tacked on since the contract was for 2 years. I told him I had the original contract and it said 1 year, I had paid the higher price for this phone to keep the 1 year contract. He stated that I would have to speak to customer service, call the same # and push a different button.
I again spoke to customer service, who then told me that I would have to fax my contract to them to resolve the 1 or 2 year issue. It took 45 min. to get this #. All along I had been assured that once I paid the past due bill service would be reinstated, no matter how much I protested that I would not renew. The offers of any customer service rep. all included reinstating the service. NOT what I wanted. The fax number I was given did not answer, I even brought it to Staples to fax and it was still a bad #. -254-295-8997 or 354-298-7439- Attn. Wendy and Samantha. I had also asked for an extension # from everyone I spoke will, they did not have one.
The next day I called again 1-800-639-6111 the only number to be found. The gentelman explained that it was impossible to reach the same person twice and that I was currently speaking to the northwest center. I told him that I had been unable to fax the letter and copy of the contract since the alleged fax number was not functioning and could I get one that worked. He gave me another with an alleged name, he had to get a third number before th fax would be accepted. I was not told whether or not it had been received. I requested an address so I could follow it up via mail to the same person. I was told that I could only use the address on the bill, I asked where his office was located and was laughed at. He also clairified that a $300.00 early termination fee already was on their bill. "If Iwould like to pay the past due account and open a new one I could get rid of the extra fees. I declined. As soon as I pay the the bill I am locked in for 1-2 more years, with a phone I do not want or need.
