The following is the transcript of a recent letter sent to a British National trying to leave Lagos, Nigeria:

You are hereby invited for questioning as we have received information, pertaining to your travel plans, it is my honour to bring to your knowledge that you over stay your visa and as such you violated the section 92, item B at the immigration code of conduct, also section 311 of the United Nation international immigration deed of agreement & Foreign Tax Section 231.

You are hereby requested to pay to the Nigerian Immigration the sum of 2,800.00 (Two Thousand Eight Hundred Pounds, UK) or the naira equivalent. This money has to be paid before you can go out of this country and as such we wait for you to make yourself available for this payment either at our office or at your Departure at the airport.

The Certificate of Immigration will be issued as soon as this money is paid. This office is sorry to inform you that, consequently if this money is not paid, your travel will be disturbed by our men at the airport. You will be stopped from traveling till you have the money to pay. We have gotten your ticket information along with your passport information.
