Complaint Review: NILCO

NILCO/Torchmarkcorp/AILife/AMBEST/METLIFE Another Rip-off Artist. $300 to start their class and $63 for the test, $40-80 for NYS Life and Health License. "What a JOKE!" Never was I asked to sign an application, show ID, or anything of that nature. They will not pick up the phone either. I hope that people see this report before wasting their time with this company. The fortunate part is that I didn't pay them anything. RIP-OFF Long Island City New York

SCAMMERS BEWARE---RIP-OFF---It starts with a phone call saying that they saw your resume online and they want you to come in for an interview. The person I spoke to was named Detreia. Guess what, I never got to meet this person. She will give you her cell number because you will never be able to contact her the 2nd time because their are too many reps.

Here is how the process works:

2 interviews in the same day along with a questioniare asking 5 questions about why you want to work for their company, etc., that they want you to return to them for the 3rd interview. "JOKE"! The first interview will be with one of their Scam Managers and then he or she will say I want to invite to a 2nd interview in another room with a person telling you how the company works and to write down the WEB addresses on the board. Such a waste of time. After that you meet with the SCAM Manager again so he can invite you back for another drawn out interview for the following day. During the 3rd interview I started talking to the receptionist, and it's funny because I guess she was trying to keep me from asking questions about the position, because she changed the subject every time. Then they call you to the back to one of the offices and ask you have any questions about the company. Then they will give you a sheet of paper displaying how they pay. It sounds to GOOD to be true. Then of course CONGRATULATIONS, we feel that you will be a GREAT canidate for this position and take notice all of the SCAM Managers have worked for the company for less then a year. They make it sound really good. Then they will ask you to sign a sheet stating how will you pay for the class. We also take "CREDIT CARDS"! Notice, all of their classes start on Monday.

The phone number listed is an automated system. They never pick up the phone so don't bother.

Their fees are as follow: (They probably change it on a week to week basis so be careful)

(40 hr Course)
1. $300.00 for the training class
2. $63(NYS Life & Health Insurance TEST)
3. $40-80 License that you can take for either 1 or 2 years. Of course, the $40 dollars is for one year, etc.

Please read this carefully, because I am in need of a job, and I almost made the biggest mistake of my life. ("METLIFE" is another SCAM Company too also located in Flushing, Queens!) I didn't go to that interview because I read up on them too.

This company is NOT a scam. In November of 2004 I received a phone call from a man at this company saying he had seen my resume online and wanted me to come in for an interview. I was a bit reluctant as it was a completely different industry then I had ever worked before. However the company I had been working for had just closed and I was running out of money to pay my bills..I was a single mother taking care of 4 children and running out of options to keep them fed. I took the interview and liked what I was told. (I am not a gullable person, educated and professional) I was told I would have to take a class to obtain my NYS insurance license which was required to work at any insurance company. I was hired and took the class and the test, passed and started working. Being an all commission position didn't scare me, because I was self confident, wanted to be paid what I was worth, not what other people wanted to pay me. The product was awesome and I saw great value in it. You have to believe in what you are selling or don't bother. I did very well and long story short, moved up the company ladder very quickly, built my team, made over 100k per year, was awarded many free trips, bonuses and perks. I was told early on that if you worked really hard and did well you would be well rewarded. After working for this company for 10 years you are 100% vested and will recieve renewals and residual income for the rest of your life. If you die your family will receive your residual income from ongoing payments of polices that you have sold. Now in 2016, I have since "retired" from the company and at 50 years old I receve a big fat check every month which pays my mortgage, car payment, taxes and health care insurance. I have also been able to put my kids through college and purchase a dream retirement home. All thanks to that phone call I recieved. This company is REAL, the people are REAL ...its all about you. How hard are you willing to work to do something important with your life. In the last 12 years with NILICO, I have made a ton of money, taken awesome trips, made lifetime friendships, worked with amazing people and most of all helped countless people obtain life securities....  What have you done?  Moral of this story. Don't always listen to the negitive remarks of people who are afraid of work, lazy, skeptical people. Trust your gut, take a chance. Achieve your goals. Was it easy..No,but what of any value in life really is. It's not for everyone..but they don't just take anyone. Very selective company makes them an A+ Supperior company. Quality! You'd be lucky to get a call from them. The rest is up to you.

I am a NY State licensed life, accident, and health insurance agent. I do not work for any of the companies mentioned above. However, I would like to point a few things out to clarify any misunderstandings on the industry. First of all the companies mentioned above are not ripp-offs. Second of all you do not need to pay them anything for any licenses. You can get you life, health, or life, accident, and health ON YOUR OWN prior to applying to any insurance company. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR A COURSE! It is a pre requisit by insurance law in the state of New York. The course is 40 hours. The cheapest and ONLY school that offers an excellent online course that is recognized by the New York department of insurance is www.globaledusa.com (wedEd course) and it is $249. You HAVE TO take a state exam with a passing score of 70% or better. You can schedule the test yourself. It is $50 no matter who you are, that is the fee. If you fail or are late you will not recieve a refund. You can register and schedule the test at http://candidate.psiexams.com/index.jsp. Once you pass the state exam you can apply to the Department of Insurance for you license. You can either send the application or file the application online at the insurance department website http://www.ins.state.ny.us/licorig1.htm. The fee is $80 for two years. The experation date will depend on you birthday. To file you will need you certificate of completion from the school you attended and your passing score from the state exam. SO YOU SEE THAT THOSE FEES MANDATORY IF YOU WANT TO BE AN INSURANCE AGENT REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU WISH TO WORK FOR. IT'S THE LAW!!! You can't blame them for not wanting to pay for it. It is your responsability to get licensed not theirs. Get your license FIRST than apply to any of those companies including State Farm and you will see they are not ripp-offs. MetLife and State Farm even have programs where they will pay you a salery for the first few months to give you time to build your commissions. NILCO is also an excellent company to work for and as I said before the fees are not exagerated and you don't have to do it through them. You can do it on your own but you will not avoid paying those fees as they are mandated by the state.
