I am posting for a friend. These are his words as to what happened:  I was on line, and a pop-up said My Microsoft was infected and that I had to click OK to fix it, or My computer would be shut-down, and, I would not be able to use it. Before the pop-up, I was NOT having any problems at all, with My computer!!! They had Me so scared, that I Panicked, and, before I could contact My Friend Donna, who, with Her Expertise, always helps Me with computer issues, I let them take-over control of My computer, to supposedly, "fix the problem", so that people from around the World, could not hack Me. At first, they said it would cost Me over $400.00, but, when I said I could not afford it, they said they would give Me a Senior discount, and, only charge Me $99.99. I cannot afford that much either, but, I was Desperate!!! So, I agreed, reluctantly!!! I have a Heart condition, and, I need My computer, but, mostly, I need the Money. My only Income is Social Security. If I weren't so scared that I would lose the use of My computer, I would never have agreed, to shell-out, all that money!!! After they finished with the computer, they had Removed My Toolbars and installed Google Chrome, which I Never wanted in the first place, but, they said it would be more secure. I was very Disgusted, but, had to accept it. No one, should have to go through that Deceit!!! This is my post to the BBB for this incident: This business is a scam. They put out a pop-up that tells you it's Microsoft. It says you have a problem with your computer, and they are going to shut it down to avoid harm to their computer if you don't click the link. After you click, you get Nishkul telling you to call their number. It has nothing to do with Microsoft! MS will NEVER do that! I called them once after I got a similar pop-up and that company wanted money to 'fix' my computer. For one thing, no one can shut down your computer remotely, unless you let them. Outside of being hacked, no one can get in to your computer like these pop-up claim. They got a friend of mine like that the other day. He believed it, like so many others. When I found out about it, I asked just what they did. He said they wanted $500 to fix it. He doesn’t have that kind of money, so they dropped it to 'Senior rate' of $99.99. ($400 dollar difference? That's scam right there.) They did not tell him it was ONLY for 3 mos. of 'service' which is basically you calling in with a problem, that you probably won't have. After that, if you want help, it's another $99.99. They removed his anti-virus (that had been working all along), and put theirs on. They said that his free one had expired because it was a Trial version. IT WAS NOT A TRIAL VERSION! He had been running it for 2+ years. They changed his browser to Google, took off all the add-ons that I put on, lost his bookmarks. We spent 4 hrs. on the phone getting it back to normal. I had called the company and asked just what they did, and told them that his Anti-virus was fine. They argued with me telling me that the free trial version was expired, to which I told them it was not a trial verison. I told them I have been running free AV for16yrs! And so has my friend. They didn't have anything to say. In short, after I chewed them out, I told them they better refund his money. Got a few days to go before I get back on the phone, if the money isn't refunded.
