I sent in a Nixon watch that I had bought in 2008 to be serviced at the Nixon service center. The watch buttons on either side of the face had become stiff and also started to protrude from the watch itself. The watch also needed a simple battery replacement. I sent the watch in at the end of December 2011 and on January 2nd 2012 I received this email:

"We are contacting you to let you know that your service item has been examined by an in-house technician. The tech has determined the service item cannot be repaired or replaced with same model/color.We would like to offer you a one-time replacement option of equal value, less service costs if applicable, from our available product line."

So I called to see what this was all about. Sure enough, after just 4 years, they no longer carry this watch or any parts for it. So I asked if I could get this replaced with the stainless steel version of the watch and was told that this watch is also no longer available, even though it was and still is showing on their website!

I did not want any other Nixon watch, the Super Hero TI PU that I sent in for service fits a very specific need for me like no other Nixon watch, plus it was sentimental value to me.

So after spending 20 minutes on the phone with what sounded like an inconvenienced 16 year old, I simply asked to have the battery replaced in the watch and sent back to me. She then told me that they do not even carry batteries for this watch! I needed Nixon to replace the battery so that they could re pressurize it to make sure that the watch is still water proof as I go surfing with it.

It's like they have completely washed their hands of this product and will not service it no matter how small the request. 2 weeks later I received the watch back un repaired. I'm a person who admires and owns several watches. This Nixon watch has been a great addition to my collection, but after this experience with Nixon as a company, I have dismissed every buying another Nixon watch again and making sure anyone I talk to hears this story before buying a Nixon watch.

Its a real shame, as I was really wanting to add the wood grained Nixon Spencer watch to my collection, but know that 2 or 3 years down the road when it may need a new crown, crystal, battery or band, I will be out of luck, who can invest in a company like that?
