NMG c/o JVC Cooking Pleasures Knives No Way to Cancel - $88.94 Charged to DC UNAUTHORIZED Kennesaw, Georgia
Ordered a Cooking Pleasures Deluxe Forged Knife for only $3 shipping. (Offer was listed on an Online Survey site where you can supposedly make money taking Surveys) Knife arrived with no paperwork whatsoever! No company address, except for the shipper information on the label. No email, website, phone, nothing for Cooking Pleasures. No account number to identify me, and no way to cancel any future shipments.
Today, when I went to find out why my check for my Electric Bill bounced, I found out that NMG *CK PLEASURE KNIFE had charged $88.94 to my Debit Card! I have not even received a notification of a shipment, not another knife, nor any way to contact company to get a refund.
I am disabled and on a fixed income. I can not afford any luxury expenditures ... I desperately need that money back so I can pay my Electric bill. I am on Oxygen 24/7 and require electricity to run my Oxygen Concentrator. This is literally a matter of life and death for me.

My story is pretty much identical to yours. I came across the offer to receive a free Cooking Pleasures Deluxe Forged Knife when I was working offers through FreeFactor to make some extra money (which has been working out pretty well for me; in fact, I made $50 my first hour!Go to gaming.freefactor.com/?id=320495 to sign up and start making money yourself!). I usually won't do offers that cost anything since I'm just doing them to earn extra cash, but I needed a good knife so I looked into the offer.
The offer was very clear: they would give me the knife free and all I had to pay was $3.00 to cover the shipping cost. In addition, they would also include an Ultimate Salt & Pepper Mill as a free gift. The total cost for both items was only $3.00, to cover shipping. Like I said, I needed a knife and, for $3.00, I couldn't see how I could go wrong with this deal. Of course I read the terms and conditions of the offer, which are just one click away from the offer page, before I ordered, just like anyone would before entering into any kind of purchase agreement. The terms and conditions were very clear: by ordering the knife, I was enrolling in a membership where they would automatically send me an additional knife every month for $79.99 plus $8.95 shipping and handling, for as long as I remained a member. Okay, I'll pay $3.00 for a knife, but there is NO WAY I would pay almost $90 for one. However, it stated there was no obligation to make any future purchases and I could cancel my membership at any time, so I thought I would go ahead and take the $3.00 knife. That would also complete the offer for me and give me a bunch of points on FreeFactor, which put another $50 in my Paypal account. A knife and a salt & pepper mill AND ANOTHER $50.00 DEPOSITED IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT - all for $3.00! How could I pass that up?
As soon as I placed the order for the knife, I received an email confirming my order. This email contained all the information necessary to cancel my account: my account number, the customer service phone number (1-800-209-8397) and their hours of operation (Monday through Saturday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm EST). Here is a copy of the email, with my personal information removed:

Since I had no intentions of ever buying any knife that cost $80 or more, I decided to cancel my membership after ten days (I would have done it sooner but I was busy with other things). I certainly didn't want to wait too long and have them ship me an $80 knife, as the terms state they would. So, using the information in the order confirmation email I received, I called their customer service number. The phone rang twice before it was answered and I heard "Thank you for calling NAMG". I immediately thought "Oh great, I'm going to be stuck in some automated phone system nightmare" but then the voice continued: "My name is XXXXX. How may I help you?". A REAL LIVE PERSON answered the phone!
I told him I wanted to cancel my membership. He asked for my membership number and I gave it to him. He asked why I wanted to cancel and I told him ($90 for a knife???). He offered to send me something else for free if I didn't cancel. I thanked him and told him I wasn't interested. He asked if there was anything else he could do for me and I asked if he had cancelled my account. He said he had and that I would receive an email confirming my cancellation. He was very pleasant and polite. Right after I hung up, I opened my email program and there it was, the cancellation confirmation:
Dear Johnny Johnson:
We have cancelled your account in response to your request. Please note that we are unable to stop shipments already in the process in our system. In the event a shipment was already on its way to you, please mark the package refused, return to sender and allow 7-10 days from when we receive your return for the refund to be processed. We greatly appreciate your business.
We greatly appreciate your business.

Not only did they cancel my account, but they included instructions on refusing any shipments that are already on their way (none were) so that I wouldn't have to pay shipping to return them. I thought that was cool, and a sign this company isn't just out to scam people.
Is $90 a month expensive for membership in a knife-of-the-month club? I think so. Does that make them a ripoff or a scam? No. Just because I think its expensive doesn't mean everyone else agrees. People buy $100 drinks, $10,000 a plate dinners, $100,000 bracelets...$90 knives are probably cheap to them. Do they force you to buy their product? No. Do they trick you into buying their product? No. Signing up and agreeing to their terms and conditions (whether you bothered to read them first or not), and then later deciding you don't like those terms and conditions doesn't make them a scam or ripoff. Have satellite tv installed in your house, then decide a week later its a scam because you didn't read the contract agreeing to keep their service for two years before you signed it, and see how far that gets you. It isn't their fault if someone blindly signs agreements and contracts. Would you buy a car and then accuse them of scamming you when you receive the first payment invoice a month or two later? Would you really have thought they gave you that car for free?
This company isn't scamming anyone. They are upfront and honest, and practice good business principles. I had no problem with them whatsoever during my dealings with them. In fact, their customer service was more friendly than any I have spoken with in recent memory, and they were prompt in handling my request. I see nothing whatsoever about this company to complain about.

When I Googled the company regarding these knives and went to this site, I was honest scared to death that money was going to start coming out of my account for knives that I really didn't need. I prayed, and phoned the toll-free number on the packing slip. In a manner of less than two minutes, any future knives will not be sent to me and I received an email confirmation of that as soon as the call was completed. The representative did try to offer me something else, but all I had to do was decline the offer and that was it. Whoever is having a problem, should as long as you didn't wait a month to cancel, call again at 1-800-209-8397. Good luck!

To the person who had no problem cancelling right away,Lucky you. You don't have to be a SNOB about it.Some of us didn't get the info to cancel right away. This freakin place screwed me out $289.worth things we paid for and NSF included . So just because you were smart enough to be able to do it ,doesn't mean we're dumb or stupid. It took some time, but I was able to get a hold of them and cancel my order.

After being hit on my credit card by this outfit. I cam across this website with 19 consumer fraud reports. While the terms may be clear. One important piece of information, all of you who have defended this outfit about the terms signed up for, do not realize. The Cooking Pleasures Guarantee states "...youre under no obligation to continue in the program. You may cancel at any time by notifying us by phone." Their website does not provide any phone number under which to call and cancel.
The only number i was able to obtain was the one stated on my credit card billing statement. When calling that number, it was an automated message that stated "press two to cancel", it then asked for your credit card info and sent you on a continuous loop stating it could not find your transaction, there was no option to speak to anyone live, and therefore now way to "notify us by phone" to cancel. So while people may have unwittingly not read the terms under which they signed up for, when they did realize, there was in fact no real way to cancel.
Here is the telephone number I have and good luck in your attempts. 800-209-8397

As I wrote back in January, I ordered the knife through a survey site...and knew what to do...and did it. My knife came in a box, with a clear way to contact the company, in plenty of time of cancel...and a simple call, to an electronic cancellation voice machine, and I was done.
All of you who wait until you get a second order, and a charge to your account are just not too bright...
You shouldn't play with things you don't understand.
The knife is awesome for $3 shipping, and I got $7 from my survey site.
You should too!

I have to say that I do a lot of online surveys, but NEVER order anything, especially after reading the fine print and terms!
I have never put my credit card out to survey companies, period!
Went to my bank today after noticing this bogus charge on my CC, cut off the cards and moving money to a different account, tried to dispute it today and the conversation with the NMG company by would never happen, on permanent hold(ignore)!
After reading all the scam articles on this, i am shutting my account down!

No Money From Survey Site
#17Author of original report

There was no money from the survey site. After filling out the first page, I got to the next page and realized that you had to sign up for a total of 5 offers before you got the promised money! So I didn't fill out anymore. I thought that I had cancelled the offer when I backed out of the survey ... please forgive my stupidity. I am not savvy with computer offers or surveys ... this was the first, and last time I ever attempted anything like this.
People do make mistakes. There is no reason to be so hateful about someone not being able to find adequate answers. There was no information sent with the knife ... no invoice, no shipping label, no nothing! It is, by far, a method by the online "warehouse" to sucker customers in.
By the way ... I recently found the same exact knife at a local store for only $15.99. Yes, it was the same. The same design, same weight, same everything!

I just ordered this knife through the Survey Site, and I have to admit, the contact info is lacking online. It was only in the email confirmation that the telephone number was sent to me. I fully intend to cancel my membership and keep the knife for $3...so I did check out the terms of agreement, and they are clear as shown above. You can cancel anytime by calling them.
They say it takes up to 21 days to get the knife. I assume by the time it gets here, the next one will be on the way at the $88 dollar price.
The way to get around this, is that in 2 weeks, I will call and cancel the continued membership, and wait for the next week for my $3 knife to come.
The $88 charge was not an "unauthorized" charge...it was part of the terms. If your boyfriend read the confirmation email, or looked online, of course he could have canceled. On top of that, you can return any of the knives you were charged for.
Sure...there is not much availability for contacting them, but if you have to work a bit to get a nice knife, so be it. If you don't work, you get what you deserve.
It's not a rip off at all...just a pain. Plus...remember, you still get $7 from the survey site, so it is like you are getting paid $4 to take the knife, and make a phone call to cancel future service.
And the knife itself has some really good reviews..I might order another! Van

Not ordered through this site

The original order was not placed through Cooking Pleasures website. It was through an Online Survey site. It was a very abbreviated version of your listing (but not the same kind of knife).
The problem was not with the knife or the ad ... the problem was with the lack of consumer information provided! There was NO paperwork received with the initial order. No company name, no website, no account number, no nothing. THAT was the problem.
Problem has since been satisfactorily resolved. Thank you for your remarks.

He has now been on the phone arguing with them for 20 mins. They don't want to give him his money back. Hopefully you'll have better luck!
