Complaint Review: No Boundaries Media Entertainment

No Boundaries Media Entertainment Paranormal Fest False, Misleading Advertising, Non-deliverable on Promoted Event Material Internet

  • Reported By:

  • Submitted:

  • Updated:

(Once known as "Paranormal Media Productions")
Many attendees of events held by this organization have been left with no refund or reasonable explanation after promoters fail to produce the show they advertise.  Event websites and social network pages created for events suddenly disappear and the promoter becomes unreachable or non-responsive for questions or complaints.  Vendors from past shows held in Indiana and Tennessee have left early or cancelled due to lack of communication, failed agreements and extremely low turn-outs.  Some past celebrity guests even remain uncompensated.

Movie screenings are usually projected onto bedsheets, after-hours "ghost hunts" (sold as separate ticket) are an unorganized joke and staff seems to be made up of uninformed pals.  Aside from "free-friend" pass holders or people associated with a guest or vendor, most first time attendees feel duped. These events are unprofessional and thrown together with minimal commodities to vendors, special guests and the public.

While the list of complaints continues to grow, past guests, vendors and attendees have now began connecting through email and social networks and have confirmed the exact same problem with this event owner and organization.

This is such a joke you would file this on the website. I have went to Paranormal Fest put on by this company and had such a good time. Not only did I go but I took my teen and about 4 of her friends. They cant wait to go back to the event.
Now with that being said I would like to take time to thank Cindy and Randy for all the effort they are doing to bring these venues to small towns people don't normally go to. I love the heart and dedication they have. And the fact they take a chance on the small town venues shows they are not money hungry people just out to rip people off.
I also love they let me do a table on animal rescue and rehabilitation another clue they have big hearts.
so thank you for everything you do. I know you may not hear this enough but thank you
You can not make all the people happy all the time. Do not let people make you stop what you love to do.

I'd like to add Karen, the info you supposedly have from the vendors not being paid...id like names.. if you were personally there and know the facts, id like to hear them, otherwise this is here say.

and since you refered to the past paranormal company........ why has it taken you 2 years to complain?

AGAIN be sure to follow the proper chain of command to complain, or suggets for the next event. If you DID NOT do this you have no just gripe.

Events get canceled all day everyday. The ones im aware of had nothing to do with NBME, and it was explained to everyone.

Please forward me any and every complaint you know of, I'm interested to help.

The truth

First Karen I must say that if there was such a large issue, you need to take the proper steps and contact the proper people.

Jim pretty much speaks the truth all around. But I am curious to know if you are refering to the Tennessee event that was for next month..... you need to be more descriptive in your complaint. I know for a fact that the Tennessee event WAS explained why it was canceled, and if you truly did pay you will get your refund. Have you tried to contact them at all because NO ONE knows who you are. I would like dates and names also with this complaint. Also I'd like your LAST name to verify in the paperwork.

What vendors are you speaking of that left and what events? I'd like names for this too.

Second it is VERY easy to reach both Cindy and Randy, and the rest of the crew, if you truely try.

Third What you need to understand is many of these vendors/celebs have NOT done what they said they would be doing, I know this from the Crump event. The promoters dont go around holding their hands telling them what to do. If you would like to donate the $15,000 for a projection screen let me know, otherwise dont complain.

Fourth These event friends you speak of, or Free friend passes, I'd like to know who was giving these out. Be sure you have all the CORRECT information also because many people win tickets.

Both ghost hunts in both Columbus and Seymour were lead by either para-celebs or by paranormal team leaders, NOT uminformed pals.

The no refunds at the Seymour event to the 2 girls, only 1 person asked for a refund, and she never came forward after she was told no by someone who had NO authority in this matter. I worked the pay booth all weekend, NO ONE came to me for a refund. As far as not knowing who was staff and who was not, simply ask. The ghost hunt was organized, and if you were really there you would know what the delay was.

Karen please feel free to contact me with more details, and please respond to all that Jim has asked you too. Im very curious to know the answers to these. Please I'd like to see any emails or text that have not been responded to. You may also contact me, Valerie Bontempo, my email is bellaitalianoparanormalpulcino@yahoo.com.. I look forward to hearing from you.

Responding to Karen of Manchester, TN's RipOff Report:

Responding to Karen of Manchester,
TN's RipOff Report:

Part of the website's tagline is "Let the truth be known" -- but what I see in Karen's report is undocumented allegations, rather than facts or truth.

I do not know Karen or her background or why she has an axe to grind with the event promoters.  I am a long time member of the paranormal community, have attended, organized, spoken at, and been a vendor at many, many paranormal events -- including being a vendor at the two recent ParanormalFests in Indiana.   I also plan to be a vendor at the next two Indiana ParanormalFest events.    I know both Cindy and Randy - but am not affiliated with them.

I *will* state at the outset that if this was such a negative experience and so many people were upset, why did city officials meet with the promoters this week to set up a follow-up event at the same venue in October?

I will comment on each of Karen's statements below:

Karen:  (Once known as "Paranormal Media Productions")

Jim:  No Boundaries Media is a recent partnership of two previous groups -- not sure what they were called previously.

Karen: Many attendees of events held by this organization have been left with no refund or reasonable explanation after promoters fail to produce the show they advertise.

Jim:  "many attendees"?  Please provide a number.  "... after promoters fail to produce the show they advertise..."  Please specify what was advertised and not provided.

To my knowledge -- "this organization" being No Boundaries Media has only produced 2 events since their creation: one in Columbus IN and one in Seymour IN.  I was a vendor at both events -- so was there before attendees showed up and after they left.  I did not observe "Many attendees" requesting refunds.  I know of three people in Columbus that were disappointed and got a refund when a vendor did not screen a movie as advertised.   This was a vendor decision and out of the control of the promoters.

At last weekend's event in Seymour IN - 2 young ladies were disappointed that several advertised 'para-celebs' were not there Friday night - as they were scheduled for Saturday.  I understand they told people they could not find the promoters or their
representatives.  There was a desk at the entry to the vendors area and it was manned by at least 2 ParanormalFest people
at all times -- that is where everyone went to get questions answered.

Karen:  Event websites
and social network pages created for events suddenly disappear...

Jim:  I have been in
the web design business since the mid-1990s and have worked with numerous event
sites.  It is not uncommon at all to pull
a website soon after an event is over -- both to prevent confusion and to
prepare for the next event.  With
FaceBook -- events are regularly dropped within a day or 2 after an event.  Provide the missing websites or addresses and
this assertion can be checked out as well.

Karen:  the promoter becomes unreachable or non-responsive for questions or complaints.

Jim:  I can reach Cindy or Randy via Facebook, website, email, text, phone... and have never had an issue with their responding.

Karen:  Vendors from past shows held in Indiana and Tennessee have left early or cancelled due to lack of communication, failed agreements and extremely low turn-outs.

Jim:  How many vendors
left each event -- can you provide details?

First, No Boundaries Media has as yet to run an event in Tennessee.  I live in Tennessee and I would have heard.   One of the previous companies did run an event, I believe in Murphreesboro, in maybe 2009.  By their own admission, the event did not go well as they were duped by agents claiming to represent certain 'para-celebs' which did not appear.  Lesson learned.

I have no direct knowledge of vendors leaving early due to problems.  Vendors talk among themselves as well -- so if there is a problem with another vendor - the rest of us usually know as well.

As to "extremely low turn-outs" -- I was at the last 2 events and while we always would like to see more folks -- the attendees
were certainly NOT "extremely low" - and certainly not so low to make the stay not viable for a vendor.  Some vendors do leave early as they have a flight to make or a long drive - the same is true of 'para-celebs' and other guests.

Karen:  Some past celebrity guests even remain uncompensated.

Jim:  "Some"?  How many and who?  I have heard of one specific person that is stating s/he was only minimally paid.  I asked Cindy and Randy directly about this as I would not want my business associated with someone who does not pay their bills.  They assured me that this person was, in fact, paid and a bit more than originally contracted.  Why this person has chosen to slander the promoters is a mystery to me.

Karen:  Movie screenings are usually projected onto bed sheets...

Jim:  This the case for the Crump Theater (as well as other venues I have attended).  A theater-size screen costs $7-15,000 -- so it is quite common to make a special frame and use king-sized flat sheets.  In the case of the Crump Theater, the owner had a PVC frame built and covered with white king sheets as the cost of a new projection screen was cost prohibitive. Not a promoter decision.  I watched several presentations and there were no problems.

Karen:  ...after-hours "ghost hunts" (sold as separate ticket) are an unorganized joke and staff seems to be made up of uninformed pals.

Jim:  There were 2 ghost hunts in Columbus and 2 more in Seymour.  These were led by 'para-celebs' as advertised and supported by local volunteers.  We videoed one night in Seymour and each of the 3 groups seemed to be well-led and well-organized.

The 'para-celebs' that lead the ghost hunts usually require an additional fee for after-hours activities of any kind -- so there is almost always an extra charge.  Considering the door was only $10 - a separate fee for a additional activity makes complete
sense.

Karen:  Aside from "free-friend" pass holders or people associated with a guest or vendor, most first time attendees feel duped.

Jim:  "..'free-friend' pass holders or people associated with a guest..."  I am not sure which event you are referring to -- but in both cases - a number of promotional free passes were given out by radio stations and local merchants.  Specifics would be nice here as well.

"...  most first time attendees felt duped."  Strong words.  Would be interested to hear how you define "most" and how you contacted all of them to get your feedback.

Karen: These events are unprofessional and thrown together with minimal commodities to vendors, special guests and the public.

Jim:  One of the reason we were vendors at both events is that these are small-town, low-cost, family-oriented events.  I have been to high-profile cons at huge conference centers that charged attendees up to $600 and vendors up to $450 for a weekend gig.  ParanormalFest chose two home-town venues and charged $10 at the door and a vendor can get a table slot with the purchase of a weekend pass.  Logic would indicate that the resources of the 2 venues would be different.  I had space, power, and traffic -- not sure if that is minimum or not as I do not know what you mean by commodities.

Karen:  While the list of complaints continues to grow, past guests, vendors and attendees have now began connecting through email and social networks and have confirmed the exact same problem with this event owner and organization.

Jim:  "... list of complaints continues to grow ..."  Am I to assume that your original report was this growing list?

We interviewed most of the guests, many of the vendors, and as many attendees as we could reach and no one said anything negative.  Perhaps we are on different social networks as I have seen only limited negative feedback.  I have worked conferences for over 30 years and have never made everyone happy.

I have sent the link to this website to both Cindy and Randy and asked them to make this report public on their pages.   Let the attendees, guests, and vendors weigh in and see how it all shakes out.

I am not anonymous - my name is Jim Clauson and I live in TN -- if you'd like to contact me -- I am on the web.
