I recieved a letter in the mail today saying I had won $250,000. So I decide to call the company, because they sent me a check worth $4,925.00. They said I should deposit the check and after I deposit the check I should send them $3500 in taxes for the $250,000.

I knew something was wrong then, so I called my bank and explained the situation and they said it was a scam. After that I called all the businesses on the letter. Neither business had heard of North American Direct Sweepstakes And Promotion Co. So if you recieve one of these letters in the mail you should contact your bank before cashing because you could be out of a lot of money.

I've never had scams look so convincing as this one, so beware. They told me it was for donating money to my charity. I asked wich one and they said they would have to look it up it could take a week. It's sad that people know right now we are hurting from money loss that they would take advantage of that. Maybe the government will see this and take charge and get these idiots...

If the check is deposited, you could incur additional fees from your bank for processing. Just remember, you never pay taxes up front for these wins. It would come out of the payout.

When someone sends you a check out of the blue saying you won a sweepstakes that you never entered it is a SCAM
I receive about 5-10 emails a day with same crap line
NEVER NEVER take a check you received in the mail to your bank and try to cash or deposit it
Be proactive - in this day and age there are sooo many scams out there to separate you from your hard earned money
Just shred it or put is in the cat litter box - better for you and the cat!

Can you cash the check or is it bad. Will It take money from an innocent company? Or will it stick it to the bad guy? I have yet to hear of anyone depositing the check and having it go through or not go through... Can we give the Govt the # on the letters we get and have them bust the b*****d that answers the phone? I am young and no nothing about all this crap. Can someone help this girl out?
