North American Movers arrived to my apartment late on August 30, 2008 for my morning move. They arrived after 5:00pm in a rental truck and said they were stuck in traffic. The driver came in the door and said this is more stuff than I expected. I stated you have my estimate list and all of the items on there should be on that list. I had packed and labeled everything myself. The driver and his two men refuse to starte packing until I agreed to sign some paper work. I requested to know what other charges should l expect beside the packing supplies. The driver said he would not know until he loads the truck. After finishing loading the truck at 9:00 pm the driver said the bill was now $3579.00 instead of the binding estimate of $2,013.00 because I had seven more boxes. I said I can not afford that what can we do? Can I take the extra boxes off? The driver said no I would need to remove my queen size bed and sofa. I said i don't want to do that, can we just take everything off the truck because I can't afford that? The driver said he would charge me $2000 if they took every thing off. He said you need to sign all of these papers or we will take your stuff off the truck and charge you $2000. I requested to speak to his manager and the driver said there is no one you can talk to. I signed the papers and informed the driver my plans to report him. He said that was fine. I called the North American Movers Inc office on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I was finally able to reach a person on Tuesday. They said they would have a manager contact me and did not. I had to call the office several times to speak to a manager. The manager only agreed to lower the bill $300.00. I said I still could not afford the total. The manager said I need to agree to the total or they would acution off my goods. I said I was going to report them and the manager said we take back our discount.
