My oil light came on in my 01 mitsubishi montero and it started making a loud claning noise. I pulled over and shut off the car for over 2 hrs. When I started the car again it was still making noise and light was still on. I drove the care about 1/2 mile and the light went off and stoped making the noise.

The car was also "not running right". The RPM's were going up high but it just wouldnt go. I took it to the North Brady Imports and they were going to hook it up to a computer and would get back with me. A few hrs later they called and could not find anything wrong, so they suggested looking a little further into the motor. So I told them to do what they had to do. They kept it over weekend and I called them on Monday morning.

I went to get it today. They found nothing wrong with the vehicle and get this, charged me $500.00. I dont know much about cars, but I feel like they just took advantage of a college girl. What do you guys think??

It is unfathomable that Sabrina could possibly have had ANY such difficulty with North Brady Import. I have been taking cars there since the late 1990's and have been consistently pleased with their professionalism, competency, service, and cost.

I was telling a friend about a place he should take his car in Davenport Ia, but for the life of me couldn't remember the name, since I moved from there almost 10 years ago.  I did a Google search for auto repair specializing in imports and wham, there it was, North Brady Imports.  I saw this negative report and decided to rad it since I was suprized in the first place to see their name associated with "rip-off". 

Back when I was a college student in Daven"pit" there were a couple of things I couldn't figure out on my Honda since I am an far above average home mechanic and did it for friends for a few side dollars while there.

Those couple of times I did need help, I went to NBI on a referral.  They were very knowledgable and always called with what the problem was before proceeding.  They would tell me the problem, explain my options, quote a price, and tell me if there was going to be a charge for any diagnostics.  SOmetimes they even explaine dthe problem and taught me how to do it myself since I was already quite mechanicaly inclined. 

Never did they charge me to look at it, even though it would be perfectly acceptable to do so since diagnostic equipment such as my own Snap-On Modis is not cheap and it does take them time, time that they could actually be making money on another job.  Those computers like a Modis, or a Verus can run $8,000 to almost $12,000 respectively.  And cost $1,200 every year or two to update the current software. If they were going to charge a fee to check it out, they would have stated so first.  I am still going to call my friend back and tell him to take his Audi there.  My friends and I all had great honest service above and beyond back in '98 - 2003.

North Brady Imports has been taking care of my 94 camry and two newer Hondas,  I trust them, and I believe I know better about them than Sabreena.  The problem is I do not see what Sabreena said would be possible with these guys at North Brady.  


I was about to abandon my camry early this year when the steering wheel was stiff and the brakes as I knew it were too old.  The car had run 240k and has numerous other problems, though it was locally running just fine.  North Brady told me the car had safety-related problems and non-safety ones, and suggested I should consider getting another car instead of repairing this one with hundreds of dollars.   I asked them to fix safety-related problems with a prior estimation of the cost that I believe was perfectly reasonable.  They did and told me the car should be ok to run until the next major problem.  


My civic was leaking coolent this monday morning and I made a reservation.  I was ready for hundreds of dollars this time.  I dropped the car and was called back by them to tell me that there was a hole on engine block because the car was not made right, which could cost thousands to fix.  They did not make the money though.  Instead, they suggested me to take the car to the dealer to see possible warranty cover.  They called Honda dealer for me and told me this could be covered by the warranty.  The car is at the dealer now waiting for an estimation and I did not pay North Brady anything.  


Anyway, I do not think they would present a $500 bill without customers' permission to spend the money on the car.  That is simply not the way they work.  I receive a call from them every time after they check the car but BEFORE they actually fix anything that would cost money, except oil change.  They always tell me the estimated cost ahead of time and I have not experienced any non-reasonable charge.


I personally believe people should be responsible when they put something online against a business or someone.

I won't mince words--Sabreena is a liar.  I have taken my car to NBI for fifteen years -- since I was a poor college student.  I also have several friends who have taken their cars there for years.  First of all, they never charge you for anything without explaining it to you and getting your permission.  Second, they never charge for an estimate or diagnosis.  Third, they always explain the options and usually recommend the least expensive one.  On several occasions they have even told me that I should watch something but that I don't need to get it fixed now.  In fact, they have told me before that the very thing that I wanted repaired did not need to be fixed, because it only needed to be adjusted or something far less expensive would solve the problem.  Most recently, I took a car in that I had inherited, planning on spending over a thousand dollars to repair the transmission, brakes, and struts.  They suggested that it was probably smarter to just sell the car.  I was shocked, but I took their advice.  It still amazes me that a business--especially these days and in this economy--would decline to take my money.  I have been ripped off by mechanics before, and I am quite cynical, but I trust NBI completely.  I don't know if Sabreena works for a competing business or is just somebody having fun making up stories, but I am certain that her account is fiction.
