I had a family member was about to get evicted from his apartment and was in need of assistance. Before calling me, He tried to handle the situation on his own by seeking out organizations that could assist him until he got back on his feet because he had used me in the past and felt like he should make an effort on his own.

Nevertheless, he went to North Dallas Shared Ministries located on 2875 Merrell Rd in Dallas for assistance (214)358-8787. He showed them the balance he owned because that is what was required. Then, he was told to get the balance lowered and they could assist him. So, he called me to help him. I hesitantly paid down the balance to a reasonable amount so that he could receive assistance. Well, I paid $1450 and he was able to pay $500, which lowered it to $600. Because I don't use my debit card to make online transactions with unfamiliar businesses, I used my credit card. However, the agency questioned how he was able to come up with that kind of money in such a short period of time. After I sent him copies of the charges made to my account, he was still questioned. The Executive Director Judy Rorrie decided to not assist him because the payment was on a credit card, when originally, there were not stipulations.

So, after the agency made my cousin jump through hoops to prove that the payment was made legitimately, they denied him assistance based on his ability to come up with funds so quickly or because it was paid down with a credit card???? My credit score is 785, which was on the statement. In addition, my card was not even close to being max'd.  I don't like assisting family members when there is a crisis, but this cousin lossed his mother at 6 years old and his father right after graduating high school. He works hard inspite of his setbacks and really tries. Could I have paid the whole amount, 'Yes'? However, I wanted him to use his resources.

It is unfortunate that organizations set-up false advertising and do not follow through on their word.

Very disappointed that this organization is giving false hope to many people who need help!
